Description

Kaga City is home to a rich tradition of folk songs, including the Yamanaka-bushi from the Edo period, the 550-year-old Shasha-Musha Dance, and the Tea-Rolling Song tied to Kaga Bocha production in the Meiji era. These songs, passed down orally, reflect the lives, landscapes, and voices of the past. This talk invites participants to explore the lyrics and backgrounds of Kaga’s folk songs, reinterpret them through their own lens, and reimagine the songs in their native language. Led by Hiroko Myokam, the program also draws on materials from the community archive “Kagaga” (www.kagaga.jp), offering a space to reflect on the stories we inherit and how we pass them on.
