Emily Dean is an Asian-Australian filmmaker based in Los Angeles with over ten years’ experience as a story artist and director in animation. 

Biography

Emily, following her training at Pixar, has worked as a story artist on THE LEGO BATMAN MOVIE, THE LEGO MOVIE 2: THE SECOND PART, and SCOOB  for Warner Bros, as well as Sony’s Oscar-winning animated short film HAIR LOVE.

Emily’s first animated short film FORGET ME NOT was nominated for an Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts in 2012. In 2019 Emily was selected as one of Variety Magazine’s ‘Top 10 Animators To Watch’ and in 2021 she was named one of  Piaget’s ‘Extraordinary Women’. Emily recently served as Director of THE VERY PULSE OF THE MACHINE on  Volume 3 of the Emmy-award-winning Netflix animated series LOVE, DEATH + ROBOTS, under the creative leadership team of Tim Miller, David Fincher, and Jennifer Yuh Nelson.

Emily currently writes, directs and executive produces content for film and television under her production banner, Grade 8 Productions.
