Biography

In a career spanning 25 years, Matthew E. Butler has brought his technical and artistic expertise to more than 20 feature films. He had the opportunity to work on two of Michael Bay’s Transformers movies, one of which, Transformers: Dark of the Moon earned him an Academy Award nomination. Matthew started his tenure at Digital Domain as an Image Data Coordinator on Apollo 13, Dante’s Peak and Titanic. He went on to serve as CG Supervisor on Fight Club, How the Grinch Stole Christmas and Vanilla Sky and Associate VFX Supervisor on xXx and The Day After Tomorrow.

Matthew was VFX Supervisor for Pixels, Ender’s Game, Transformers: Dark of the Moon, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, Clint Eastwood’s Flags of Our Fathers, Letters from Iwo Jima and the recent 2018 Steven Spielberg blockbuster Ready Player One.

Matthew holds a B.S. in Aeronautical Engineering from the University of Manchester UK and an M.S. in Aeronautics and Astronautics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He is a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences.
