Biography

In 1969, Seeff relocated from South Africa to New York, moving from science to the arts. He quickly established himself as a rock photographer and graphic designer of album art. In ‘72, he became Creative Director of United Artists Records in Los Angeles. Two years later, he opened an independent studio on Sunset Strip.

In his evolution as a photographer, Seeff created the ‘Sessions Project’ – a ‘laboratory’ for the exploration of creativity from the inside out. He’s filmed over 500 sessions with creators of all disciplines, including musicians, actors, writers, directors, entrepreneurs – and the exploration continues. His interaction with renowned creators and innovators includes such luminaries as Ray Charles, Joni Mitchell, Steve Jobs, The Rolling Stones, Steve Martin, Michael Jackson, Miles Davis, Martin Scorsese, will.i.am, Alicia Keys, Nobel winners, and many more.

In the 90s, Seeff started directing TV commercials for major international brands, winning multiple awards. In 2000, he returned to his Sessions Project, focusing on long-form projects exploring creativity in all its forms. After 35 years of exploration, Seeff has identified core archetypal structures of the creative process, demonstrating that all creation is sourced in the innate ‘inner resources’ of consciousness, and that we all have access to the same innate resources!

Seeff views his work as a conduit for the many voices of the hundreds of creative and innovative individuals, working at the higher reaches of human potential. Seeff is one of the THU Legends at THU2015. Join us, and learn from this remarkable master!
