5 years ago, two online friends from different corners of Europe moved in together and started writing for the fun of it, creating a world together, which turned into a story, which turned into a pilot.

In a bid to bulk up their own portfolios and attempt to create their own opportunities in an industry where the current realities of its lack of entry level opportunities become more apparent every day, the indie animated pilot New Earth came to be. The sentiment was shared by many graduating artists, as evidently this contagious energy spread to their circle as they started to bring this wild idea to reality, and soon began spreading even beyond.

Today, New Earth boasts a crew of over 160 artists worldwide, a project complete in its pre-production and over 3 minutes of rough animation completed of the pilot episode. All of it created and maintained around the schedules of the team. How did this happen?

In line with this year's Tribe Talks theme of "turning constraints into craft", the aim of this talk is to go over how we took a very ambitious project and turned each of the hurdles we were presented with into markers that helped us navigate around what was necessary to make it work. Starting from scratch, what we didn't have in concrete resources, we made up for in resourcefulness, ingenuity, a little bit of insanity, an overwhelming amount of passion, and a genuine love for what we do.
