  • Shadows, light and color - part 3

This time I'm coloring on top of the gray-ish tones from before, I'm still having hardships with picking colors, but it's going a lot smoother than before. I think the red on the clothing of the girl is looking good, but I'm having doubts about how her skin looks, but I'll leave that for later.

On a more positive note I did like how the chimpanzee's face turned out, it happens that rugged faces are much easier to paint.

  • Introduction

Hi, I've been developing my submission for the THU Golden Ticket challenge for some time now, but I've only just now gained the courage to post some of the process.
So, in my view for the future, the human kind will achieve, with the help of technology and science, a sustainable lifestyle and will be able to live on planet earth for many more centuries. But now with the home planet safe and at peace, the humans ambition and curiosity will speak louder. So they decided to explore the space in search of new homes and resources.
Now humanity will live in a new era of space discovery.

  • Pods dock

Before jumping into the details on the 3D scene, I just wanted to understand better the pods dock area. I'll not have much time to figure out the shapes of everything, so it also gives me an overall direction for the design.

  • Part 6 Background painting

The work on the final piece has started, I began with the background. Working out the lighting and colours. I want the piece to have some small graphical elements to it, so I played around with the shape of some stars and the lighting on the moon.

  • 01 - Technology

Here are some silhouette explorations for the drones, both the sensors and the stage platform. From here I'll choose a couple and go deeper into the design. Then I'll go further into the elements and functionalities of these props.

  • Connected- introduction

This project begun some weeks prior to this first post but im not the best at keeping a posting schedule so now that im almost finishing it I decided to make some posts about the various stages :)

I started sketching some ideas and topics i wanted to tackle on the project.

From this first stages (the ones im showing in this first post) I scrapped almost everything but what stuck with me was the idea of conection.

The idea of a future where people can be more connected with each other and with nature as a means to a brighter future.

I wanted to explore holograms and sattelites in a simbolic way of showing a connected world. On top of that I wanted to tackle the speed aspect of 5g in subtle ways as well, and was searching for those ideas in this preliminary phase.

  • AGENT GREEN OF CHANGE! - Gradient Map/Coloring Update

The Deadline approaches! It's always welcoming to see an abundance of stories being told into one piece. I'm now entering the final phase of my work, What's left are highlight/shadows, visual effect, color correction, and stylistic details. Hope to see this piece to be posted very close to the deadline. Doing the best I could :D

  • Ten thousand brush strokes later

I've refined most of the values and adjusted the majority of colours in the scene as well as adding in some extra details here and there.

The next step is going back and making some small changes to a few elements and adding the final touches.

Now this is the first sketch to know the exactly positions that I want. One of the babies and arms are going to suffer some design changes so that the concept makes more sense.

Progress is going a bit slower this days, but things are getting there. All the colors, but yet I feel I manage to balance them out. Fingers cross that I can end this one properly.
ahhh so many amazing entries. I'm hyped

Here it is a better idea of the elements and scale for the scene.
All the structures have organic substrate parts, allowing all kind of sea life to grow on it. It should be like a crowded automated and very organized city, in perfect balance with the environment :D

  • Military Vanguard - Robot weapon lighting

Another phase is done. I personally liked the texture in the weapon. Looks like "old" metal. I like it. Now that I come to think about it. In another post I wrote that coloring the background could help with the characters lighting. Guess I went reverse on that one. Off we go.

  • Military Vanguard - Robot shading

These last days have been busy, so I only could get working on this yesterday. I could say that I'm satisfied with the coloring but I still think it lacks some color impact. this is kind of a note im leaving for myself. Anyway, the clock is running and much to be done. I might rework the colors later or something like that, I just know that I need to lay the surfaces colors and shadings on the canvas. Small changes and details can stay for last.

  • It's on!

Well, well... hello tribe! I'm glad to participate again in the challenge. I'll be sharing my creative process, I hope you enjoy it and all your comments will be most welcomed!

When I was researching a little more about the benefits of 5G, one of the words that appeared and triggered the idea on which I am going to base this project was "latency", and particularly latency in music. Latency is the delay before a transfer of data begins following an instruction for its transfer, and in music, it's crucial to have a low latency to hear the sounds you play nearly at the same time you play them after all the digital process has taken place inside a computer or pedal. Nowadays, 4G technology has a latency of 200 milliseconds, and 5G is expected to reduce it to 1 millisecond. This is less than the latency that you have when you play live from your amp to your ear. Acceptable latency is between 10-12 milliseconds. This is a huge opportunity for musicians to jam or play at the same time from different parts of the world. Imagine having a band or a side project with musicians from other places and everything that could musically enrich this project. You could even perform recitals in the metaverse! The day after considering these ideas, my brother had to travel 150 km to Montevideo to rehearse with our band and return to the coast where he was staying that week. I guess he could have benefited from this technology. And it is in relation to this idea that I am going to develop my entry for THU 2022

God mode is nice but this time I am going to try a mode that I like more and it is the entrepreneurial mode. 4G technology was created in 2009 (fun fact, Uruguay was the first country in America to have it) so it is taking about 10 to 15 years to change the technology. Considering this, we will place the year for this project in 2030, before a possible new change in network technology, but where we can see advances in today's developments.

Immersive Music is a Non-Profit Organization, created to unite musicians from all over the world so that they can play live and merge their styles and influences and at the same time raise awareness about our past mistakes so as not to repeat them again. Immersive Music provides a series of platforms equipped with holographic projection drones, condenser microphones to capture ambient sound, and heat and temperature sensors for an immersive 4D experience. You will be able to connect with your VR glasses and equipment and play your instrument in front of the sensor that will capture your movements and project them on the IM (Immersive Music) platform. You'll also be able to use your custom avatar or NFT if you prefer, but instead of being immersed in a metaverse, the holographic projections and sensors will bring the action into the real world and you'll be able to see and hear your bandmates playing on the platform locations all over the world. The IM platform is a lightweight, solar-powered platform that uses drone technology for navigation to be as unobtrusive as possible to the environment.

And these places are specially chosen for their cultural, historical and/or educational value, to raise awareness aiming at a global society with an open mind and in harmony with the environment. Some of these places are abandoned military bases from a warlike past that we do not want to repeat, the ship graveyard in the Aral Sea, a failed test for trying to change the watercourses, the train graveyard in the Salar de Uyuni, the historical wonder of Machu Picchu and other abandoned or difficult or limited access places. Imagine playing your guitar in a remote, abandoned and/or forgotten place, sharing melodies with your musician friends from other parts of the world. You can also share the experience with other users who can live it through your eyes and your instrument. All this is Immersive Music, bringing musicians closer, growing awareness.

    Deliverables:

    - Drone Design

    - Platform design

    - Instrument Design

    - Clothing and avatar design

    - Design of environments

  • Changing it up

So I went in and roughly blocked out the image and quickly decided that the previous composition was a little flat. Though epic in scale I feel that the piece needed to be a little more intimate. I brought things down to the ground where we could get a sense of the surrounding area. The aesthetic of the BG town is still being workshoped but I am trying to base it off of the area I live in (south west France). I still need to find the balence of old and new.
The color choice so far is an attempt to avoid the generic 'future colour combo' of green white and blue. (my brain really wanted to do that for some reason). At the moment I'm palying with the influence of the lavender. I'll test out some other combos next. Purple is my least favorite colour yet here I am.

The antenna's previous design was a little too aggressive in shape so I took inspiration from some interesting contemporary gas/service stations that had a round yet solid form. I will still need to iterate and create some alternate variations to see where I can take the design.

I put some little solar panels on the bee hives because 1. It's sustainable energy, 2. I can have some nice reflections interacting with the light, and 3. I think it's cute!
The lights surrounding the hill started out quite bright but I fought back my desire for extra glowing items so that they wouldn't draw from the antenna's focus. I also researched what lights would be most friendly to bees and it turns out that warm, dim lighting disturbs them the least.

I threw in some stamped tree silhouettes last minute to test making the scene a little more nestled into the landscape. From this I came across an alternative, verticle compostion that could focus in more on our agents of change. I'm still deciding what could work better.
I don't suppose anyone reading this might have an opinion on what works best?

  • Rendering

Now what is left is rendering out elements that weren't rendered enough, so characters and background.

It's the last step before finalising the illustration with additional effects and some colour balance corrections.
