As we head out of our final week of mentorship with Sony Talent League, I am reflecting on what I have learned and what comes next.

But first, I am thrilled for the Djossi Heroes team and am in awe of the talent of all finalists. I have to pinch myself to believe I am alongside them.

I am incredibly grateful to have met and learned from the mentors, finalists, and THU team. I will stay in touch with mentors as I take my next step in this exciting journey.  I will be improving my pitch deck with more artwork with new artists and discovering the makings of a script.

Here is a recap of what I have learned:

  1. A personal connection to the story is part of every step.
  2. Think like a leader, student, and collaborator.
  3. Use fashion, music, and real life to build characters.
  4. Give each character a purpose.
  5. Get the opinions of kids.
  6. Just be yourself.

A final takeaway from Sony Talent League is that I have found a place where I belong. This is a picture of me when I was 10 years old; I frequently made a stage out of kitchen chairs to tell stories or perform to a crowd of stuffed animals.  If I told my 10-year-old self where I am, I think she’d she very proud.
