Project Description
HipHop Alchemy is an Arena Style Fight Game which teaches players (ages 8-infinity) The Periodic Table, through Hip Hop. We hone in on teaching Middle School and High School age children who may learn through hands-on kinesthetic pedagogues better than being taught to in a centralized schoolhouse manner. HHA’s low barrier to entry allows anyone to pick it up fresh and enjoy but offers enough opportunity for Educators to integrate their curriculum and foster learning objectives via competitive fighting game mechanics and immersive rap music. I was motivated to create this project by a 6th grade student whom I was tutoring. He was deemed as inferior because he underperformed in chemistry tests but was excelling in reading and music. He was a videogame enthusiast and wanted to become a rapper when he grew up. I recognized that I'd also struggled the exact same way while in early education and I wanted to bridge the learning divide by honing in on what we both enjoyed. Hip Hop Alchemy innovates on the fighting genre by including an anime based narrative, black representation throughout the title, a strong emphasis on learning objectives and gameplay mechanics reminiscent of Virtual DJ which allows players to create unique original work in game as a core mechanic.
