Modeling and Back to Research
Week 4.
Another week, another challenge. Not only was it one of the tightest weeks Team Mapo had to face so far (next to “Signal” we had to manage a busy job, a film festival we attended and being sick for days, all at once), but also we dug a bit deeper in the structure of our story and started to explore further the concept of it. Since we have been reading and doing research about the deaf community for a couple of weeks now our knowledge and empathy has been growing within that time. Thus, it is understandable that we have now reached a point where we know some things better than before and feel the urge to adapt our script to that knowledge.
In addition to that, two of our mentors, Erick Oh and Rafi Nizam, both used their session with us to focus on the concept of our story, which was very helpful.
Thanks to Rafi’s input we started a new research strategy, where we will focus on deaf people’s stories and memories, like difficulties they face in their everyday life, their feelings, advantages/disadvantages they might have over hearing people and so on. We even created a google form with questions, which we started to send out to as many people of the deaf community as possible.
Google Form for our Research
We've already received a good amount of answers to the questionnaire and we hope that those answers will give us an even clearer image of their way of thinking and seeing things and that it will help us to form a more solid concept for our story.
Besides that, we also worked on a first sketch of the environment in VR. We used Gravity Sketch to draw out prototypes for the most important elements of the first chapter of our interactive experience.
Plus, we started to model the character considering the designs we have for a better understanding of his shapes and proportions in a 3D or even VR room.
WIP of the character the viewer of the story will encounter.
