Getting an idea
This is really the base of any drawing I make. I feel like if we don't explore the composition, or even the ideas we got inicially the results are never as wow as they could be.
The theme itself was pretty challenging. Asking someone how they would want to change things, or how they would see change, is always pretty philosophical. While I do love promps that allow people a wide range of emotions, poses and even themes, those do tend to be the hardest to really settle down with an idea.
In my case I always am quite active when it comes to this brainstorm part. My concept art consists of drawings of a few minutes at most to get that ~feel~ of the piece. If I don't think it's right I'll move to the next. A lot of times I'll also go back and mix parts I liked of each idea.
What transmitted emotion?
What was interesting?
What composition did I like the most?
The rest is scratched off the board
In this case, I decided to focus on the nature aspect. I wanted animals to benefit from 5G. I want us, as humans, to help them and be close to them while animals are free to roam and follow their own instincts.
Zoos were the first thing that came to mind. Many of the animals there couldn't even go back to the wild because they'd be heavily hunted. So what if we could change that?
Use 5G to track animals in the wild, have surveillance on natural parks like never before.
Oh, but the good part of Zoos is that you are allowed a closeness with animals that you wouldn't naturally, you may say.
And yes, I do agree. I love watching those beautiful animals up close too. But we are talking about 5G here. And as such, there is a solution for it.
VR would be the solution as well as holographic expositions of those animals!
That was my first idea- 5G Zoos.
And that is what you see here in the concept art. Sketches of a little girl going to see the tigers and finding perfect live images and environments of said tigers while they are far away in a natural habitat.
I decided to not to go with this idea because it was being difficult for me to express it and draw it in a way people would understand what I wanted to show.
So I decided to change that idea up to the next sketches. A little comic of a girl's interaction with a tiger seemingly as close as possible. Then it's shown to be a a live video on the girls VR of the tigers in India.
This idea I liked more, but I didn't follow it either because I didn't feel like it created that much wonder and bamb! visually on people. It was a cute comic idea, but I wanted something more simple visually.
Then, after some more research and looking for ideas I saw that this year is focused on the oceans.
Thats when I figured exactly the theme I wanted- The oceans and 5G working together.
