  • Holograms Concepts

-Hologram concepts and understanding what a basic hologram might look like. Since it is a new technology it will be still unknown.
-Like old tv, real-looking holograms will be expensive as they come out first. You can't use them on a regular ship unless you have a lot of money. For a regular rescue ship, you will most likely don't have that type of money. Therefore the holograms can be in one color and an infinite number of values. it is Value based, just like when there was no color on the televisions.

  • redoing the composition

So I went back to my drawing and redid the composition a bit so that I could fit in the storytelling with the characters I had envisioned. This is the rough draft of the positioning of the characters and the general vibe of what I'm going for.

  • Shell Concepts

Tried out different types of looks for the Robo-Trash Can. I was certain to make something look like a replica of reality, unlike my sea turtles.

  • Final Image

To finish the illustration, I took off the importance of some elements to get a better reading of the scene. Everything was too detailed and taking the focus out of what mattered to the story.

I had the most amazing time working on this piece, that allowed me to learn and apply a lot of things I've been studying and also share with the world a little bit of who my grandmother was.

I truly hope you enjoyed it. Many thanks, guys!

  • Robo-Turtle Design

-The Robo-Turtle idea came from an unfortunate thing that happens to turtles due to sea pollution, they eat plastic thinking it is jellyfish, and they might get stuck to a net and never get out. But these Robo-turtles will protect all the sea creatures. Sea turtles don't have many predators in wild, and making them mechanic, not a chance to be eaten. With the shell could widen like a net to collect more trash, it was a great solution to our problem.
-Most products will have some type of logo. I know that I didn't want to have a sea turtle logo on a sea turtle. I am in love with Rays, they are majestic animals, they have been used for designing spaceships over the years, so why not have a rescue center called Manta.

  • Phase I: Sketchy, sketch.

I was considering how humans could greatly benefit from 5G technology while conducting research on its sustainability when I realized that basic science benefits the most from it by using it to make life more comfortable. The first phase of the sketch, which is extremely simple, shows how I imagine the two elements relating to one another.

  • The energy in us (first step, the idea)

We ourselves are the source of energy. We can combine daily activities, such as cycling, canoeing and any other physical activities from which to power the devices around us. We have the power to create energy, why not be active and battery at the same time. Let us be our own energy source in every possible meaning! To move our bodies, rest our minds and recharge our homes.

  • Finishing

One more layer of light to create a warmer mood and make the scene more cinematographic. I really love studying movies to better understand this process.

  • Render

This is the result of the color base with light. From this point on, I started rendering the final art, a more relaxing part of the process.

  • Volumes

The idea is that this shadow works to unify all this mass as a big shape, separating plans and giving depth to the scene.

  • Base Color

I like to start with the base colors to understand the scene balance right front the beginning. This is the process Dice Tsutsumi and Robert Kondo talk about: to think in an initial phase with a neutral light and to work the final light as a second layer on top of everything. For me, it's a very practical way to work, even to alternate something, if necessary.

  • Lines

I really like the painting process that Tonko Houses's guys teach and I'm loving it and using it more and more in my work. Even so, I still use lines a lot to structure the drawing and to test the possibilities. Many times I also use Blender to get the basic composition, but this scene ended up with more loose lines.

  • Character refined

I enjoyed this version the most, found it more balanced, with a good visual for the main character. Made some studies to find the better design and then started to work on the final art.

  • Character explorations

Since the beginning I decided not to draw my grandmother as she was. I am currently studying characters and decided to use the contest to improve my silhouette skills.

  • People

This was one of the funniest parts of the process, work on these portraits was great to relax a bit between steps. Also, it was a good moment to apply a few things that I’ve been learning about characters and shapes.

  • Color thumbs

Another hard decision: defining what was the mood I would like to communicate. I had two options: a warm scene in the sunset, for a more nostalgic mood; or a brighter one, happier, representing the character's happiness for writing her own name for the first time ever. I decided to go the second way, since I thought it would represent the scene better.

  • Thumbnails

Once the idea was defined, I tried to explore some possibilities. It was a little bit difficult because there were a lot I would like to portray, such as my grandmother's name, people watching the class from around the world, all this taking place in a humble farm in Brazil in a near future.

In the end, I decided to work with a scene where the elements have similar importance and the focus is the main character: Alice.

  • Reports and context

Maybe digital education is already a reality for everyone in some countries, but that is not what happens in Brazil. During the Covid-19 pandemic, many children couldn't study and left school, since they didn't have a proper connection to take remote classes. I searched for some articles and news to better understand this context and imagine how different things would be different if 5G connection was available to everyone, everywhere.

  • Farm references

Since I too grew up in a farm, as you can see in the pictures, I searched for my own memories to create a very genuine mood.

  • General references

For this illustration, I looked for some references that bring beauty to daily moments. I really appreciate names as Norman Rockewell, Robert Frank and Robert Doisneau.

Another very important point for me was to bring elements from my country, Brazil. I've always loved to observe the shape of the hills we have here and wanted to put this in the piece.
