  • Part 2 Concept Space station 1/3

I started with some quick concepts based on different flowers but with generally the same shape to match the composition sketch. Trying to find a balance between the plant elements, technology elements and looking for an intersting plant shape.

  • Part 1 Quick Composition sketch

Hello everyone, I started of with some quick sketches based on the idea of a plant/flower space station. The future is bright and green, so humanity decided to use plants in combination with technologie to solve problems. They now grow spacestations directly in space and fuction as communication satellites. Trying to find a good composition where there's a clear sense of depth

  • Getting an idea

<div class="lexxy-content lightbox-container"> <p>This is really the base of any drawing I make. I feel like if we don't explore the composition, or even the ideas we got inicially the results are never as <em><strong>wow</strong></em> as they could be.</p> <p> </p> <p>The theme itself was pretty challenging. Asking someone how they would want to change things, or how they would see change, is always pretty philosophical. While I do love promps that allow people a wide range of emotions, poses and even themes, those do tend to be the hardest to really settle down with an idea. </p> <p> </p> <p>In my case I always am quite active when it comes to this brainstorm part. My concept art consists of drawings of a few minutes at most to get that <em>~feel~ </em>of the piece. If I don't think it's right I'll move to the next. A lot of times I'll also go back and mix parts I liked of each idea.<br> <br> What transmitted emotion?</p> <p> </p> <p>What was interesting?</p> <p> </p> <p>What composition did I like the most?</p> <p> </p> <p><s>The rest is scratched off the board</s></p> <p> </p> <p>In this case, I decided to focus on the nature aspect. I wanted animals to benefit from 5G. I want us, as humans, to help them and be close to them while animals are free to roam and follow their own instincts.<br> <br> Zoos were the first thing that came to mind. Many of the animals there couldn't even go back to the wild because they'd be heavily hunted. So what if we could change that?<br> <br> Use 5G to track animals in the wild, have surveillance on natural parks like never before.<br> <br> <em>Oh, but the good part of Zoos is that you are allowed a closeness with animals that you wouldn't naturally, you may say.  </em></p> <p> </p> <p>And yes, I do agree. I love watching those beautiful animals up close too. But we are talking about 5G here. And as such, there is a solution for it.<br> <br> VR would be the solution as well as holographic expositions of those animals!<br> <br> That was my first idea- 5G Zoos.</p> <p> </p> <div class="lightbox-container"><div class="pswp-gallery lightbox " data-controller="lightbox" data-lightbox-target="container"><div class="lightbox__item"><a target="_blank" data-lightbox-target="item" href="/rails/active_storage/blobs/redirect/eyJfcmFpbHMiOnsibWVzc2FnZSI6IkJBaHBBc3VFIiwiZXhwIjpudWxsLCJwdXIiOiJibG9iX2lkIn19--f60309f56d06ba00ab6af828720eaed8d7a5ceb1/IMG_1626.PNG"><img alt="" loading="lazy" src="/rails/active_storage/blobs/redirect/eyJfcmFpbHMiOnsibWVzc2FnZSI6IkJBaHBBc3VFIiwiZXhwIjpudWxsLCJwdXIiOiJibG9iX2lkIn19--f60309f56d06ba00ab6af828720eaed8d7a5ceb1/IMG_1626.PNG"></a></div></div></div> <p> </p> <div class="lightbox-container"><div class="pswp-gallery lightbox " data-controller="lightbox" data-lightbox-target="container"><div class="lightbox__item"><a target="_blank" data-lightbox-target="item" href="/rails/active_storage/blobs/redirect/eyJfcmFpbHMiOnsibWVzc2FnZSI6IkJBaHBBc3lFIiwiZXhwIjpudWxsLCJwdXIiOiJibG9iX2lkIn19--28b2153fe3971dc70975d2400a2223b1dbe10c13/IMG_1627.PNG"><img alt="" loading="lazy" src="/rails/active_storage/blobs/redirect/eyJfcmFpbHMiOnsibWVzc2FnZSI6IkJBaHBBc3lFIiwiZXhwIjpudWxsLCJwdXIiOiJibG9iX2lkIn19--28b2153fe3971dc70975d2400a2223b1dbe10c13/IMG_1627.PNG"></a></div></div></div> <p> </p> <div class="lightbox-container"><div class="pswp-gallery lightbox " data-controller="lightbox" data-lightbox-target="container"><div class="lightbox__item"><a target="_blank" data-lightbox-target="item" href="/rails/active_storage/blobs/redirect/eyJfcmFpbHMiOnsibWVzc2FnZSI6IkJBaHBBczJFIiwiZXhwIjpudWxsLCJwdXIiOiJibG9iX2lkIn19--bf1e9dd7682b264141b209b3c5158fb2865f6c63/IMG_1628.PNG"><img alt="" loading="lazy" src="/rails/active_storage/blobs/redirect/eyJfcmFpbHMiOnsibWVzc2FnZSI6IkJBaHBBczJFIiwiZXhwIjpudWxsLCJwdXIiOiJibG9iX2lkIn19--bf1e9dd7682b264141b209b3c5158fb2865f6c63/IMG_1628.PNG"></a></div></div></div> <p> </p> <p><br> And that is what you see here in the concept art. Sketches of a little girl going to see the tigers and finding perfect live images and environments of said tigers while they are far away in a natural habitat. <br> I decided to not to go with this idea because it was being difficult for me to express it and draw it in a way people would understand what I wanted to show.<br> <br> So I decided to change that idea up to the next sketches. A little comic of a girl's interaction with a tiger seemingly as close as possible. Then it's shown to be a a live video on the girls VR of the tigers in India. </p> <p> </p> <p>This idea I liked more, but I didn't follow it either because I didn't feel like it created that much wonder and <strong>bamb! </strong>visually on people. It was a cute comic idea, but I wanted something more simple visually.</p> <p> </p> <div class="lightbox-container"><div class="pswp-gallery lightbox " data-controller="lightbox" data-lightbox-target="container"><div class="lightbox__item"><a target="_blank" data-lightbox-target="item" href="/rails/active_storage/blobs/redirect/eyJfcmFpbHMiOnsibWVzc2FnZSI6IkJBaHBBczZFIiwiZXhwIjpudWxsLCJwdXIiOiJibG9iX2lkIn19--bba792fd25501242c58f6de234a96de0884fa1e0/IMG_1615.PNG"><img alt="" loading="lazy" src="/rails/active_storage/blobs/redirect/eyJfcmFpbHMiOnsibWVzc2FnZSI6IkJBaHBBczZFIiwiZXhwIjpudWxsLCJwdXIiOiJibG9iX2lkIn19--bba792fd25501242c58f6de234a96de0884fa1e0/IMG_1615.PNG"></a></div></div></div> <p> </p> <p><br> Then, after some more research and looking for ideas I saw that this year is focused on the oceans. <br> <br> Thats when I figured exactly the theme I wanted- The oceans and 5G working together. </p> <p> </p> <div class="lightbox-container"><div class="pswp-gallery lightbox " data-controller="lightbox" data-lightbox-target="container"><div class="lightbox__item"><a target="_blank" data-lightbox-target="item" href="/rails/active_storage/blobs/redirect/eyJfcmFpbHMiOnsibWVzc2FnZSI6IkJBaHBBdENFIiwiZXhwIjpudWxsLCJwdXIiOiJibG9iX2lkIn19--164917a842344bd0fc4688c56632ec15e36d5578/IMG_1625.PNG"><img alt="" loading="lazy" src="/rails/active_storage/blobs/redirect/eyJfcmFpbHMiOnsibWVzc2FnZSI6IkJBaHBBdENFIiwiZXhwIjpudWxsLCJwdXIiOiJibG9iX2lkIn19--164917a842344bd0fc4688c56632ec15e36d5578/IMG_1625.PNG"></a></div></div></div> <p> </p> </div>

  • Final piece

    Here is the final piece!

For the style I took inspiration from old school Akira Toryama covers for Dragon Ball and Dr. Slump. I wanted to recreate that "gritty paper" look, even if it's digital.

For thr waterbots I used megaballs and the golden snidget as references.

    I hope you like it,

    goog luck everyone!

  • illustration sketch

For the overall illustration I,ve focused on creating a scene while gardeners are working. For the trees I took inspiration from Bonsai trees (but bigger). For the gardeners I thougt about a smart jetpact that helps them to float. I got inspired by astronauts and scuba divers.

Also thanks to 5g they could be able to communicate easier and have information on how to take care of every plant/tree in real time

  • Humanity part 10 (Technology)

Today we use technology in our everyday lives, we use it for education, research, entertainment, development, playing games, making calls, putting up websites, watching videos, making crafts, etc, we find it all around us. We can even use technology to track the weather progress and see what kind of weather will happen throughout the week. With technology it was also used to help create satelites to track what kind of storms are headed in different parts of the world such as tornado's and hurricanes. A storm tracker that was invented was called "Dorothy" aka D.O.T. which was used to gather information on what goes on inside of a tornado, and with the data collected warning times for tornado's would be in place. Just as weather can be unpredictable on Earth it can also be unpredictable in outerspace, so to help track the weather/atmosphere statistics I added in a Techpad that tells the skematics of one of the Domes of how the percipitation is fairing. With the Travel Advisory Alien he helps in letting people know ahead of time what is going on with the gateway and makes sure that it is stable for people to pass through.

  • Humanity part 9 (Plants)

In nature where there is water, we can always find some sort of plant life either sitting on top of the water or submerged in water. Plants that can be found sitting on top of the water are lilypads, lotus', Bugbane, Crinum, Sweet woodruff, Daylily, etc. Just as plants can sit on top of the water, they can be submerged which is called Water hyssop, Pickerelweed, Cattail, Iris, Canna, Elephant's Ear, etc (www.gardeningknowhow.com). Because I wanted to incorporate nature in my piece I wanted my characters to understand the importance of nature and how we need plants and how it helps produce life in the ecosystem. I wanted to bring plants in because it helps make all life possible through the form of photosynthesis, which transforms energy from the Sun into the chemical energy of food (www.britannica.com). I also wanted to bring the beauty and science of flowers to the water to make it feel like there was life and beauty through the plants. Through flowers, we can find the hidden beauty of nature.

  • Frog Religion

Hi, my original concept was to create a environment where these hunters who are elemental humanoids hunt down other elemental monsters for competition and to survive as part of how they live. They would live high up in the trees in the sky but it eventually felt right to make it more grounded. Over multiple ideas I decided to go for a society that worships the frog king with a japanese style to the project. I wanted to show the brutal aspect to the village while showing some resistance against opressors. I used Blender and Substance Painter to model and develop and render the scene to quality standards

  • Humanity part 8 (Fire)

Just like in nature when  it comes to fire it is essential for survival. As humans it is important for survival because it keeps us warm from the cold. Heat is also applied to gas because it what is used to heat our homes in the winter. In order for the TreeDomes to survive in outerspace i created the fire source so that the Tree's could provide an enrgy source to remain in space. To keep the fire source alive it uses human trash and old technology scraps to use as the fires power source. With this green method it helps conserve energy and keeps the TreeDome's alive and well.

  • Humanity part 7 (Gateway)

To travel from TreeDome to TreeDome I wanted to create a gateway that could be used as transportation for people to use daily throughout their schedules. With a gateway incorporated it could help with a greener solution to cut down on energy being wasted.

  • Humaity part 6 (Space)

With the world being contaminated and uninhabitable for humans, they were forces to leave Earth and live on something else that could sustain human life. So now that people can't live on Earth anymore, because they have not learned their lesson on how to take care of the Earth, people were forced to live in outerspace. Even though there is beauty on Earth, there can be beauty found in Outerspace as well, so for this work in progress I wanted to create a beautiful galaxy that the people can always look at to remind themselves that there can be beauty found in anyting and anywhere.

  • Humanity part 5 (Water)

In this stage i wanted the room to feel like it was apart of nature so the characters live in a room where it acts like a greenhouse for plants. To make sure that the plants were fully hydrated I incorporated a waterfall to also make feel like a small jungle.

  • "Welcome Home" wip#2

With “Welcome Home” I wanted to create a visual that connects with the viewer with a sense of warm belonging and joyful balance. Peacful civilization in harmony with the natural world. Being such an emotion driven creature I didn't go into something too technical but  felt like catching that bold sentiment of future optimism with a bit of a whimsical touch. Just as THU has always made me feel at home and welcome, this tribute wishes everyone joining the event a sense of warm welcome and an exciting sense of magical future adventure.

I made sure the almost full color spectrum palette in the painting adds to a playful and otherworldly vibe.

finishing my visual thoughts in the coming days.
