  • About Alice

This was my grandmother. She always used to welcome me with a good cup of coffee, and the inspiration for my idea came from a moment I had with her.

Because she grew up in a farm in Brazil in the 1940's, she never went to school. When she was 70 years old, she decided to start studying and learned to write and read a little things. I remember her, over the moon, with a piece of paper in her hand, showing me she had learned how to write her own name: Alice.

  • First Computer sketch

After doing a lot of writing, here's my first sketch. My intention here is to place characters and their actions, I'm not worried about shapes. The sketch shows a self suistanable community.
Can't wait to see where this ends up!

  • Some writing and Stick figures

As I told you in my last post, I like writing a lot. My main goal here is to clean my mind and to get my idaeas right. I also did my first stick figures sketch, it's really rough. I want to make an illustration understandable for everyone, in every culture :)

  • Understanding the Fundamentals

-I always do one basic shape language comp before I go with anything. Trying to find if there is anything to be enhanced.
-After I am certain about the comp I give it a tiny color base to see if that is the color palette I want for the piece. I wanted to have that crisp sunlight coming in and balancing with the blue shade of the skylight.

  • World-building Around the Comp

I could have gone with something much more simple, showing my trash-eating Robo-turtles doing their tasks, but the question was how can I show more and make something more than just a scene in the ocean. After many hours of trying to come up with something extensive, I had this story, some people in our new society live on some type of a ferry and guard the oceans and their residents. I know for a fact that was just the thing I was looking for.

  • Coming up with a composition

Whether my focus was on the environment from the start, settling on one was the hard part, there were so many things that could be done with high technology and network. As a person who loves nature, I would love to have something that could give me any information, anytime I want about an animal. I would love to have a life drawing class in my house, with a lion thanks to holograms. Since those ideas were more like tasty bits of pleasure, I know that I had to go with something more important and current to our life today, Protecting animals and avoiding Pollution.

  • Brainstorming and Initial Sketches

Agents of Change, as soon as I heard it, I know that it should be something about the environment or helping animals. Being an agent in my eyes means having an impact on something without other people knowing about it. The Tiniest change in your life such as stopping to use plastic straws could have a huge impact on the environment. Replacing stuff with environmentally friendly ones or recycling items could make a huge difference to our planet.

  • Shadow Update - Missing Highlight/Effects

I absolutely love the underwater scenery. All the missing steps are highlights (lighting), effects, and some final details touches.

  • Introduction

Hi everyone, I'm so happy for beeing a part of this challenge again!

When we think of agents of change, we usually think about children or big heros. But inspired by my grandmother, who grew up in a simple farm and just learned to write and read when she was 70 years old, my idea was to imagine a world where anyone can study from anywhere, it doesn't matter who you are or how remote and humble is the place you live.

An Adult Education Class where an old farmer woman finally learns how to write her name thanks to digital education. A moment where 5G opens new possibilities of inclusion. Because by allowing people of any age, region or social class to easily connect to each other, we can break barriers that separate them from their dreams.

  • 3D Base

For this piece I decided to use a different process than I'm used to, so before I started drawing and painting I made a 3d model of the composition.

  • New Angle

I changed the comp a bit to feature a clearer fore mid and background.
Whilst there's still a lot I like about this scene, it's not capturing the feeling of a dense, organic and explorable environment quite like the one I see in my head.
I shall be drawing up some new compositions and making the final choice between the two very soon!

  • pipes

I messed around with a load of geo-node pipes.
honestly they feel quite random to me, and in general I'm starting to feel like 3D is an upward battle for me at the moment!
If I'm to use it properly in the future I think I need to have my designs clearly established before using 3D at all.

  • Part 7 Final touches

Touching up some final elements, some colour corrects. I also scaled down the spacestation slightly to give it more space and to get a better sense of the scale.

  • Building assets

I created/modeled my own building but at a point it didn't worked out well, so had to get some assets from KitBash assets.
These are their buildings, I removed some of them.

  • Military Vanguard - Final touches

For the final touches, I added some paper sheets in the air, just flowing with the wind, and some additional light in the right top corner, i think it helps intensifing the idea an ambience light in the scene. Plus some minor color saturations.

Honestly, I feel satisfied with the result. Its a learning process and im doing this to improve. It was challenging at some points and quite fun at other ones. I can say that I enjoyed to participate on this competition, even if I dont get any prize. I feel quite lucky to see other talented artist from my own contry and learning through their work in this competition, so, thanks THU.

  • Military Vanguard - More texturing and robot 5g branding

At the near end of my work i noticed that something was missing, the 5g branding. i want to pass the idea that this robot is controled via 5g system, for a fast response in conflict situations. My country national flag simplified was also added. as far as im concernd that's not against the rules.

  • Military Vanguard - smoke, dust and light

Now that i come to realize how effects and textures can be quite messy sometimes, but i dont deslike it. i do enjoy looking at some rough texture and feel the palpable smoke and light. Personally, this is my most rendered and focused illustration work in a while, and im glad to use this as a way to improve even more from here on.

  • Process Video Link Thinking About Sustainable Education

While reading the rationale behind different designs for sustainable-futuristic cities and economies, I quickly fell in love with how schooling and education are characterized and described. I do not think any of these will necessarily make it into my final image but the rationale and key points shown here are very informative to how I am approaching this project as a whole.  The video can be viewed here, compressing it wasn't doing it any justice. The video itself contains some key points and text as well as my original images. All text that isn't quoted (and attributed) directly is my own.

  • 03 - Platform design

Evaluating the sketches for the drones and the platform, I decided to go with this design and model the platform in ZBrush to have a base for the final illustration. So here is the design and some of the characteristics of the Stage Drone where the members of the band will be playing all synched up!

Third panel - Aloy from Horizon Zero Dawn (Guerrilla Games). Horizon Zero Dawn is a game that focuses on advanced technology. Aloy uses her "second sight" to right the wrongs around her and to save the world. 5G has a similar power of bringing new, modern solutions to new, modern problems.

This panel also represents the new way video games will take shape with the power of 5G - better graphics, faster online communication, an out of this world experience.

  • Painting Final

Lastly, I finished the job painting the "wave" where the mailman is running on.
This "wave" I wanted to have a bunch of lines connected together, again to convey the idea of interconnection, and connection between the items. Here I wanted to make a reference to some aspects of 5G such as: its benefits for our health; connecting people; benefits for the environment, recycling and agriculture; and its speed.
