  • Progresso 2

Optei por colocar a silhueta do rosto da minha irmã, pois quando li pela primeira vez o tema do concurso "Your Personal Oasis", só conseguia pensar que o meu Oasis só poderia existir se ela também estivesse presente nele.

  • The first color pass

With the perspective fixes and the 3D elements applied, it was time to get back to settle on the colors. I felt the time running out, so I had to switch softwares to Rebelle so I could apply the colors in a more natural way.

This was a strange drawing to go through and has made me nostalgic about drawing while travelling. Here's to having the chance to do that again.

Now all that's left is the submission!

  • The 3D elements

I had to figure out how to draw the details of the bus, so I settled on one resembling the look of the ones in Toronto. Moved and cleaned the characters some more and took some 3D elements to get a nicer perspective.

  • The cleanup

The next big step was to clean up and center the elements on Clip Studio. Some of the geometry felt a little funky though. There was more cleaning up to do.

  • The Process

The idea I settled on was very rough. I wanted some nature invading, and some other people around but disconnected from my avatar experiencing the satisfaction of the oasis.

Whether the bus was going to be there or not was going to be an issue.

  • The start

For the start, I wanted to think about what makes a personal oasis. The idea of refuge kept coming to me. The idea of a shelter. I had the works of Makoto Shinkai as reference for that feeling of "longing" that belongs to that particular flavor of nostalgia, from my trip to Japan and the times I've backpacked before.

And it hit me that the bus stop was a recurring element to my memories of an oasis. A literal stop. An oasis is usually portrayed as temporary. You don't get to live in it.

But how do I portray that as *personal*?

This third ideia I like how could bring the hammock and create a space of rest and put articulate a art atelier. Bringing the foreground to show the hammock and create a more accurate feeling that I was trying to show.

  • First idea

I diceded to work in 3 compositions for choosing  the best one. The idea in this one was to articulate the atelier space and nature. Although I like the fact the character was back and not well integrated with the both spaces. I like of using the hammock as a storytelling element for the oasis.

  • Fairy beach day (thumbnail)

A long afternoon in the beach, you are tiered, your skin feels the salty water and the hot sun... still, its getting colder as the sun sets and the light fades.

You and your friend head back to the big fairy palace at the shore. You take a warm bath and flies through the big curvy halls until you find a tall common space where many other fairies feed themselves everything they like. You treat yourself some grapes and chocolate squares... with them you head to one of the big balconies, where the entire floor is covered in soft pillows.

The balcony is all yours, so your wings slowly stop and you lay down on the pillows, where you can read a book you just found.

It's once again another day at the fairy beach palace, you feel happy with the warmth of the palace's torches, as the warmth of the sun is none. You are comfortable.

    This one is very special.

I usually don't like to write about the things I'd prefer to show. But this one is an exception, I don't think I managed to tell that feeling in the image above, as I coulnd't finish it. I started it with a lot of commitment, and started planning... Things just didn't happened as I wanted. I had some family problems, I unfortunatelly had very agressive days taking care of my dear friend Pingo, my dog. He was very I'll and we had to take most of our time taking care of him, I had no money to help, but after I requested help on social media something special happened: Many artist friends donated a good amount of money. It really brought me to tears, I didn't felt so powerless anymore. Unfortunatelly we couln't do much to help Pingo. We had to say goodbye.

Overlaping this we also had problems with my grandma, she was too sick. It was probably harder, we had to admit her. After losing our good friend this was very stressful. Very thankfull she is fine right now, we are taking care of her and she is going to be okay!

Honestly I was thinking If I could post this text, In a way this is the first time I'm allowing myself to think about these stressful months again, I feel like talking to myself. I never had anything like this in my life.

I really wanted to be out there and meeting more artists from other countries and international, yes. And obviously I didn't finished my project, but all these feelings are in It. I love my family so much, and would love to share this story with the THU team. My art has always been about what I lived, this story and the Fairy beach palace comes from a childhood full of beach days... with my family!

I'd like to thank you for reading both my stories.

  • The Goal

Being a simple artwork, distribution and content wise, doesn't necessarily mean that it doesn't have depth.
I enjoy portraying emotions through an ambient, through the curiosity and the sensations that said exterior makes the viewer feel, and that is my guide when coloring, while constructing the buildings and the landscape itself. But it needs to be polished of course, it needs more than just tones. I think that a narrative can be assembled without characters, but I like to add them, and so they will be present in the Final Submission.
