Character Head Sculpting
Mentor
Description
Looking to get started working on your sculpting skills?
I've been working in the gaming industry for the past 15 years and have been teaching and mentoring at different schools for a while, and have noticed how much of a struggle it can be for students to tackle these first few steps, establishing a blockout of the head and progressing smoothly into fine detail.
Since anatomy is the bread and butter of character art, I feel that the head, being the most important and complex part of the human body, is a great place to start developing your craft. Practicing the primary shapes, silhouette and basic proportions is fundamental to understanding how to build a believable and appealing sculpture, no matter the style you're going for.
This is aimed at aspiring game artists, concept artists and people who may be already in the industry but struggling with anatomy. No previous knowledge of zbrush is required. You pick the style, be it more cartoonish or realistic, and we go from there!
The mentorship will be divided in 4 parts of 1 hour long sessions every two weeks, and will be covering these topics (flexible to change according to your needs):
- Concept/reference
- Head blockout
- Facial features
- Detail pass
- Sculpted Hair
- Tailored feedback
To prepare, I'd suggest gathering some references for the style and the head you'd like to make. Looking forward to get started!
