Lighting & Compositing

Description

Hello and welcome!

This mentorship is for artists who want to create stronger, more intentional lighting and compositing for animation and games, guided by real production experience.

I have 8 years of industry experience, starting in lighting and look development for commercials, where visual clarity, speed, and strong artistic decisions are critical. From there, I moved into animation, feature films, and games, working on projects such as LEGO Avengers, LEGO Star Wars, Disney’s Iwaju, the feature film Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Mutant Mayhem, and most recently EA Sports' FC26 in games.

Alongside production work, I’ve received 5 Honorable Mentions in Pixar’s RenderMan Challenges, reflecting a strong focus on lighting quality, composition, and artistic problem-solving.

The mentorship focuses primarily on animation and games, where I have the deepest hands-on experience. We’ll work on lighting that supports storytelling, performance, and gameplay readability, as well as compositing techniques that enhance depth, mood, and polish. I also cover foundational VFX and CG integration concepts when useful, especially for artists navigating multiple pipelines, without positioning this as a pure VFX mentorship.

What we can work on:

  • Lighting for animation and real-time games
  • Look development principles and visual consistency
  • Shot lighting vs asset lighting. Production-driven decision making
  • Color, contrast, exposure, and visual hierarchy
  • Compositing fundamentals for animated and CG content
  • Offline vs real-time lighting considerations
  • Portfolio and reel feedback with clear, actionable notes
  • Career guidance. Studio expectations, interviews, and growth paths

Sessions are tailored to your goals. Whether you’re a student, junior artist, or an artist transitioning into lighting, we’ll focus on what will have the biggest impact on your work right now.

This is a practical, no-fluff mentorship. I’ll explain the reasoning behind decisions, and help you develop a stronger artistic eye and confidence in your lighting decisions.

If you want your lighting and compositing to feel intentional, readable, and production-ready, this mentorship is for you!

Looking forward to meeting you!
