I'm a first-generation Korean immigrant. I moved to the US during middle school and graduated from Rutgers University-New Brunswick in 2017, earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in visual arts (media concentration). After I graduated, I spent time searching for my passion. After I graduated, I spent time searching for my passion -- a career in film and television. Then one day, I found the art book of Star Wars the Last Jedi. I didn't know there was a whole dedicated art department of visual development and I was so excited about it. I instantly knew it was what I wanted to do. To learn more about digital art, I went to learn art fundamentals from Ashcan Digital Art in New York at night while working as a sales associate at a cosmetic store during the day. I went there to learn concept art in games and live-action films. I also learned how to draw comics. It was my teacher who first saw my potential as a storyboard artist because I was good at speed drawings and storytelling; so I tried it, and I loved it. After I decided to pursue my career as a storyboard artist, I volunteered to do storyboard jobs for indie film projects that I found on Facebook. I made some samples from those projects. And then, I finally got my first couple of freelance jobs with the commercial production company, The Film House, and an independent motion capture production company, Fred in Motion in 2019. When the pandemic hit in 2020, I had to quit my job as a sales associate, but I used that opportunity to really dive into animation storyboarding. I took an online class on visual storytelling from Class 101 and another with Alan Wan from Concept Design Academy. And Windia corporation, a start-up production agency from South Korea, offered me a job to work on a Webtoon project. Now I'm currently developing an original webtoon with the company. However, I still wanted to work as a storyboard artist so I made the decision to move to California in 2021. While working as a Webtoon artist, I took classes from Rad How To School, got portfolio feedback from Rise Up Animation, and met friends from Asian Queens in Animation and AnimAsians. And now, I'm learning and developing my skills in order to break into the animation industry.
