I am a 25 year old Chinese American, born and raised in the greater San Gabriel Valley Area. My cultural identity growing up roots from my dad having been a khmer rouge surviver and refugee and my mom immigrating from China, my environment comprising of peers with similar stories to mine. I started attending Art Center College of Design in 2017, where I learned many of the facets of the animation pipeline for the first time. I've 2d animated on paper and digitally, I've cg animated and modeled, and I've worked extensively on short films, filling all the roles in the pipeline. Every step of the way, I was humbled with how much I knew I had to learn, to practice and to catch up to, the standards were high and every semester I was needing to master a new skill that I was being introduced, which was challenging but also extremely gratifying. I've learned to navigate friendships in a creative field, how to look after my mental and physical health even if it seemed impossible many times, and how to be a cheerleader for everyone in the classroom and myself. Eventually I took a storyboarding class and for the first time was introduced to storyboarding for tv animation. I went straight into storyboarding and directing a thesis cg animated short film of my own, where I was fortunate enough to work with and direct 30 other amazing, talented friends. When covid-19 hit in the middle of the production, I learned how to maintain consistent progress with my teammates and the assets being produced, all the while making sure everyone was being supported mentally as well as I could. Eventually, the film was finished and rolled out, and I had graduated with a project I was proud of. I want to build upon my skills in storyboarding and creating IP's, really get a grasp of strong camera work and composition, as well as be a great asset in a production and a fun, reliable peer for others!
