Biography
Hi! My name is Tajha, and I've been freelance illustrating in Jamaica since 2019. Although the industry on the island is quite small, I took a leap of faith and dedicated myself to honing my craft and furthering my career.
In 2021, I graduated from The University of the West Indies with a BFA in animation. It wasn't easy, especially since I was balancing my freelance business, extracurriculars, and volunteering. While volunteering I completed a mural at Holywell in the Gift Centre alongside one of my friends. I also had the privilege of winning a pitch competition for an animation contract with the Sesame Workshop alongside an awesome team. During the project, I aided with the development of visual style as well as animating.
I've always had diverse interests that lead me to a brief stint food blogging, being part of the Jamaican poetry scene as a teen, winning an honourable mention for the Joan E. McLaughlin Short Story Competition, writing food recipes and articles for a Jamaican Lifestyle website, an IFLE artist Laureate (2020), and winning the Brodber/Pollard Prize from the University of the West Indies for creative writing. My most recent pride is being part of the WeChangeJA & QLounge artists' showcase and film screening called Eclectic Soul Sessions in January 2022. You can always find me illustrating for children's books, working on exciting personal art projects and short films or feeding wild birds in my personal bird sanctuary.
