Raymond Arturo Perez is an LA-based television writer and creative, hailing from San Antonio, Texas, who most recently served as staff writer for season 2 of Selena: The Series on Netflix. Raymond’s industry experience includes production accounting for television shows including: The History of Comedy season 1 and 2, 1968: The Year that Changed America; The Sixties, The Seventies, The Eighties, The Nineties, and The Agent. He has also served in other accounting roles including development payroll for a major studio and assistant accountant for season 3 of Dickinson on Apple. As a writer, Raymond aims to broaden the film and television canon with stories of Latines, queer people, and other underrepresented communities. In 2015, Raymond coordinated the largest gathering of Latines and allies in the film and television industry: the annual Media Summit hosted by the National Association of Latino Independent Producers (NALIP). His relationship with the organization has continued to grow and he now serves as an evaluator for NALIP’s signature incubation programs. Raymond is also supporting this year’s Outfest Screenwriting Lab Committee and is a proud member of The Clubhouse, a gay Latinx writers organization. In 2014, Raymond graduated from The University of Texas at Austin with a BBA in Marketing and a BS in Radio-Television-Film. He received his Master’s degree in Screenwriting in 2019 from the American Film Institute, which is currently ranked the number one film school by The Hollywood Reporter. Raymond attended this institution with support from scholarships from the AFI Conservatory, as well as the Cheech Marin Scholarship from the Hispanic Scholarship Foundation. When Raymond isn’t writing at his kitchen table, he can be found on the dance floor getting down to salsa, merengue, bachata, y cumbia.
