Biography
My first experience was making animated videos when I was about 10 years old. I started with stop-motion animated lego movies. I kept up making stop motion and 2d animated videos randomly throughout my early education.
I went to study Film and Animation when I started college. I realized that on-set was not where I thrived, and that VFX was more my forte. From there I heard about Motion Picture Science and changed majors so that I could help create the VFX technologies of tomorrow.
Independently I recognized the emerging potential for AI in VFX. I decided to dedicate 1/2 of all my study time to extracurricular AI / ML research in addition to taking extra computer science classes to supplement my motion picture studies. This culminated in my final senor capstone project: 3D Learner. For this project I trained a network to extract depth information from 2D movies so that you could 'remaster' any 2D movie into a 3D movie. It was relatively successful and had not been done as well by another team until after I graduated.
I graduated right when lock-downs first started. I was able to find work through the Google Summer of Code and the Academy Software Foundation. From there I got a full-time job at UNAR Labs. Their project's objective was to create universally accessible software to help particularly blind individuals do anything you or I take for granted. While it was not exactly the same as what I studied, me and those hiring me recognized my creative skills as a potential asset to the team. I have been happy contributing to the project ever since.
I can't wait to see where AI / ML will take me next.
