Kent-P is surely the most prominent director in Burundi, yet becoming a director was far from the childhood dream of this native of Kinama. Born NZEYIMANA Ishmael, Kent-P had other plans for his future. “At first I wanted to become a nurse, but the world of the arts attracted me and I ended up changing my mind”. Kent started making videos when he was 17, but took it up professionally at 18 after high school. It was in the 2000s that Kent became interested in the world of arts and culture. “I was a student at the Congolese School Center and at the time I was doing slam and I was in the teams of budding geniuses. I liked slam a lot and I started recording a few slam songs”. It was by wanting to make clips for these songs that I started to take an interest in video production. This to be able to do it alone one day, since the directors of the time were slow. “They made you (the directors) wait 3 or 5 months before delivering the clip to you. So I said to myself that I should learn to do it myself. Kent-P has great ambitions for his future and for the future of the profession of director in Burundi. Indeed, one of his big dreams is to see Burundian music videos be as competitive as videos from other countries. Having ambitions and dreams in his head, Kent-P wants to conquer the world and he knows that by dint of hard work and with a lot of will, his work will cross the world.
