Traditional Art

Hi there! I am Lisa Manolache, I have a bachelor in Game Art from SAE Institute Geneva and I am fascinated by fantasy weapons. Therefore I would like to become a 3D props / weapons artist.

Biography

As a young girl I never imagined I would end up studying and hopefully working in the Video Game industry, but I knew i was attracted by everything artistic. Therefore I obtained a bachelor in Fine Arts in Romania. However this soon proved to not be what I wanted to do in life. During my education we had courses on color study, anatomy, drawing and sketching and in my free time I practiced painting, water color, photography and film. I even dabbled in writing for a while. However a constant source of pleasure in my life was playing video games. When I passed my bachelor exam in 2019 I was put in front of a difficult decision: to leave Romania. In order to reunite with my family I moved to Geneva, Switzerland where I started a second bachelor program in Game Art at SAE Institute. I soon discovered that this is what I was meant to do. I was completely absorbed by everything 3D related. I learned all the software the teachers taught us, not only by doing the imposed projects, but also by doing lots of personal projects. Working in teams during the 1st year has helped me develop a variety of skills in communication, organization and project development. Later on, I managed to occupy a position as Lead Art during a game development project, where I had to manage a team in order to produce different props and textures. Working with the other sections of the school such as Game Programming or Audio proved to be a very interesting experience. In my final year, I had to choose a specialty and develop my Bachelor thesis. Since I like doing a bit of everything this proved to be difficult and I changed my project a few times. I did managed to settle on creating weapons with different pipelines and for different types of games. The main purpose was to compare them and find out if an universal pipeline can be developed. To do this I contacted multiple specialists in the 3D world such as Evan Gaugh, Christopher Hayes, Natacha Nielsen and Carson Steil. Talking to them and learning about their workflow has only motivated me to work harder and learn more methods. For the future I would very much like to work as a props artist, especially to do weapons, from concept to the final product!
