Biography
Hey! I’m Leo Mafra (Florianópolis, 1999) a Brazilian visual artist and illustrator, Bachelor of Visual Arts at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul - UFRGS.
I work with digital painting, resorting to semiotic processes and tools and graphics typical of editorial illustration and, inspired by fictional literary and cinematographic universes, in combination with creative writing and intertextuality, to develop artistic projects that address identity, science fiction, horror, sexuality, surrealism and fantasy.
I worked at the Laboratory of Image and Technology of the Institute of Arts of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul, assisting in the exhibition "The days when owls had fallen from the sky", editing two art exhibitions catalogs and developing a game for use in university classrooms. I also worked as an illustrator in the project "Ilustraê", painting digital compositions for the Sextante Magazine, as well as other freelance commissioned work.
Recently, as my graduation project, I began development of a videogame demo called Lilac House Arcade, creating a series of character and prop designs, 3D models, illustrations, UIs and textures in a solo effort to experience different parts of game development. This passion project was decisive in pushing my love for the different artistic mediums, their collaborative nature and the problem solving challenges they encompass.
