Biography
I have been a part time Illustrator since 1992. In college at the University of San Francisco/Academy of Art, I was trained to do traditional illustration, concentrating on drawing and painting with charcoal, pastel, acrylic, oils and watercolor. after graduation I did mostly free-lance work which allowed me to do a variety of Illustration jobs. I have freelanced for magazines, clothing manufacturers, colleges and professional sports teams.I have done Logos, Editorial Illustration, Sports Illustration, designed men’s neckties and t-shirts. I even designed to scale the basketball court for the University of San Francisco in 1998.
In 1994 I could see a change in the commercial art industry towards computer generated art and took classes to stay current. Today I enjoy the flexibility of Photoshop and Illustrator as well as Ipad programs Procreate and Vectornator. I enjoy using the Ipad and Apple Pencil to create art. The Ipad replicates the same feel as traditional drawing and painting and allows me to draw and paint right on the screen. I still paint and draw traditionally as well.
As I said earlier I have been a part time illustrator. What has paid the bills over the last 28 years was my full time employment as a police officer for the San Francisco Police Department. For 14 years I was a Forensic Artist. I met with victims to produce drawings of suspects from their memories. Many of the sketches closely resembled the suspects when arrested and led to identification and prosecution of suspects. I also acted as a graphic designer, designing logos and brochures for department use. I also worked as a patrol officer, high tech crime investigator, digital forensics examiner, crime scene investigator and as a Sergeant supervising officers. As a crime scene investigator I prepared crime scene diagrams, videotaped and photographed crime scenes. I also edited videos and prepared PowerPoint presentations for court and professional associations.
I retired in June 2022 from the SFPD at the age of 53. Although I have retired from one profession I am still looking to work. I have re-entering the world of Art. I recently joined the Art Guild of Pacifica and the Society of West Coast Artists To display my work. Thank you for taking the time to review my résumé. portfolio and letter. I hope to hear from you in the future
