South African Video Editor and Creator

Biography

I am a South African creative passionate about storytelling in many different mediums such as films, novels and games. This has led to a diverse mix of skills - I feel just as comfortable editing a short animatic or music-related video as I do writing copy for corporate clients (although the former is certainly more creatively fulfilling for me).

I spent quite a bit of time studying at the University of Cape Town (2014 to 2020), studying Film & Media production in undergrad and then going on to do Honours in Screenwriting and Masters in Creative Writing. I handed in my thesis novella Goodbye, Hallelujah! just before Covid and lockdown hit. After all that time at uni, it feels as though I am a bit of a late bloomer, as I have only started to fill up my portfolio with work in the last couple of years.

My first job was working as an editor for Africa's biggest animation franchise Supa Strikas, which I found extremely exciting and a great way to learn. Not only did I edit the animatics along with director Bruce Legg, I also prepped the scripts for ADR once we picture-locked an episode. This led to me getting involved with the script and putting my screenwriting learnings to use. We finished the 12 episodes in November 2021, and the series has currently racked up over 40 million total views.

I am currently freelancing remotely as a video editor and writer. I made my directorial debut in September 2023 with a 48-hour live-action short film titled STACKED, which follows a bumbling warehouse worker who tries to salvage his day after hearing that he might be fired (Team Wilhelm Screams, Cape Town). I also have a short film production in the works thanks to Reel Issues Films and The Pitch SA short film competition. We are shooting at the end of October 2023 over the course of two days.

When not engaging in creative work, I love watching and playing football (I support Man United, Atalanta, Bafana Bafana or otherwise the underdog).

There's a lot on the go, but I am always keen to make new connections and engage in exciting projects.
