Biography
Hi!
My name is Irene Centelles. I was borned in Spain. I've always had a passion for video games. I played my first game in the Game Boy. Since then I was always curious about them. I majored in science but I've decided that I wanted to learn how to draw. Therefore, I prepared the university entrance exams for it and I got into the Politecnica University of Valencia. I've studied fine arts for 5 years. I got a grant to go to study in the Catholic Pontificia of Chile for 6 months for the last semester of fourth year. That's why I decided to let my final project for the following year and focus on doing a nice project.
I've resolved that I wanted to use this final project to make some portfolio. Therefore I made a concept art of a graphic novel video game. It was a very interesting project to me because I wanted to learn also about feminism and use it for the game. So not only did I learn about concept art production but also about this theme. Meanwhile, I was working for the Servipoli Foundation. I was very lucky to find that job because I could pay for my expenses sinceI didn't have any grant that year.
When I finished my Bachelor of Fine Arts I wasn't unsure which path career to take. I wanted to learn how to make video games so I enrolled in a Masters degree in video games. I moved to Galicia and I've studied for 2 years. This master teached a little bit of everything. The negative part of it it's that I couldn't learn further about my personal interest such as concept art. The bright side it's that I could have a brief taste of everything and decide what I might want to do and dismiss the rest.
The other positive side is that our final project had to be a video game. Personally ¡, I believe we did an amazing project. (you can check it here: https://store.steampowered.com/app/2615870/Avy_Fables_of_the_Night/). I was responsible for the production and art directing. Obviously, it's not like art directing in a real job. It helped me to improve my soft skills and my time management.
I've finished it and I've decided to get into the industry as an environment concept artist. I saw it as a less competitive field and it would be nice to improve my perspective. At the same time I did a mobile videogame project. I wanted to experiment and learn how to make video games on that platform. In addition, I teached a workshop for 7 to 11 years old. I teached how to use a game engine and a little bit of visual coding. (You can play it over here: https://irenecentelles.itch.io/gat-amagat-roig)
During the past year I developed a casual platformer video game for mobile. I worked alongside a programmer and a musician. It was an amazing experience that taught me how to finish a small project. (you can dowload it here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.FocalPoint.SpaceTour
This past march I moved to Ireland for two months in order to improve my English. I worked as an Au Pair taking care of two children of 9 and 13 years old. I learned how to take care of them as well as getting involved in a new culture.
During this past month I've been working on an environment concept art in order to show my skills.
