My name is Hyejeon Jeon, a Korean artist currently looking into the entertainment industry. Born in Seoul in a pre-Kpop era, I grew up in a coastal city of Ulsan surrounded by rice paddies. I first started drawing on the back of my father's discarded doctoral thesis drafts. I drew animals and cartoon characters. When I was nine, I finished my first comic, an adaptation of a children's story called "Brave Little Duck," hand-drawn on stapled A4 papers. Many people have told me throughout my life that I should not stop drawing. One of them was my high school teacher who was bold enough to make a group of prep school students engage in esoteric performance art involving yogurt. I wonder if she can imagine that teenager ten years ago still engrossed in art. I started learning English when I was seven in one of the few English classes in Ulsan. My teacher was named Abdul the Canadian. What brought the Canadian man to the coasts of South Korea I would not know but I was rather proud of myself for being able to pronounce his name right. That seven-year-old Hyejeon would never imagine herself across the Pacific Ocean still drawing and searching for opportunities in art. I was never really popular artist; this is not self-deprecation but a fact. A handful of dedicated supporters, both in the online world and academia has pushed me to go forward. I believe in my ability to add a unique voice to a creative team. I have experiences and an interesting combination of skillsets that could help a production. I hope to meet interesting people for projects in the future.
