My name is Howard Kung, I am 19 years old and currently attending Stanford University as an undergraduate sophomore.

Biography

I began my lifelong passion for animation in 4th grade, where I was introduced to the medium in a computer class. Ever since then, I have dedicated my life to visual storytelling and pursuing a career in the animation industry. I began with stop-motion animation, but now specialize in 2D animation (specifically 2D character animation) In 2018, I created my first 2D animated short film, "The Lonely Stoplight," which won the Teen Animation Festival International (TAFI) Community Partner Award; The Walt Disney Family Museum Board of Directors Favorite Award; the California Student Media Festival High School Division Craft Fiction Award; the Innovative Video in Education (iVIE) Cross Curricular Award; was nominated by the All American High School Film Festival; and was screened at the SFO Museum Video Arts Exhibition in the International Terminal from July to August 2019. In 2019, I attended CSSSA and completed a 2-minute short film called "Time of Death" in one week. Since then, I have been working on animation projects independently, as Stanford does not have a formal animation program. I am currently co-president of the Stanford Storyboard Club, and interested in creating student-run support for undergraduates at Stanford who are interested in a career in the industry or are simply curious about the world of animated media! Although it is outdated, my 2020 video portfolio is a good showcase of my past works, including the two 2-minute short films mentioned above: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NB9T1BTB2gM&t=141s (An updated reel and portfolio is coming soon!)
