Hi, I am Fabian Johnson. I am 22 years old. I grew up in rural Taranaki. I had a loving family who nurtured me with attention and affection. In regards to creativity I began drawing, sculpting and developing my own games and other creative pursuits well before I attended preschool. My experiences growing up were rich and imaginative, explorative and fulfilling. I am filled with gratitude for the fortune I was gifted. My enthusiasm, positivity and energy has been radiant throughout my life, much of which I believe comes from having a clean conscience. My values have always circulated around respect, integrity and work ethic. I have been a high achiever at all stages of my education and garnered many awards as a by-product. I am long-term thinking and in my pursuit of meaningful action I find it easy to turn down instant gratification. I have been afforded many leadership roles which enabled me to be a participant on The Spirit of Adventure as well as at the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards. I was the first year 12 student at my high school to adopt a prefect position and later accepted the role of deputy head boy in my final year. I am empowered within my life and I have been generous in my service to others. I volunteer often and give my time to those in need on a personal level. I have always been a passionate creative. I enjoy the entirety of the creative process from formulating ideas and manifesting physical forms to applying finishing touches and presenting my designs. I choose architecture as my next educational step so that I could continue drawing and making models whilst also engaging myself academically. This extended me beyond my own expectations as my digital competency grew exponentially. In 2020 I discovered a chemical reaction during one of my design projects which I could not visually communicate using images alone. I put forward a video with my submission and was fully enticed (ARCI 311 - Project 1). All my presentations have been in video format ever since. This is how I discovered my passion for film. You can find all my projects on YouTube here At the end of January I participated at the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards 2022 which empowered my spirit and transformed my thinking. This inspired me to take action and create my own business (A-Flux Media) which I have been setting up for the last few weeks. My intention this year is to align my academic work with my future goals around making music videos and short films as a career. In other words I intend to extend my skillset and produce a powerful portfolio. This year is my final year of study. Visual storytelling through film will be the focus of my thesis. My research question is “How can the designed architectural identities of “landmark” structures be enhanced through film media to facilitate their narrative interpretation to strengthen the viewer’s personal connection with the architecture?”. I recently bought the Mavic 3 to help me achieve this. My commitment and determination is unparalleled. In high-school I attended 3 years consecutive without missing a day. At university I worked 18 hour days for two weeks to achieve my vision for a project (STINGRAY), following which I fell ill for the next 3 months. Fueled by perfectionism it is easy for me to become a workaholic. Through psychoanalysis I have come to understand my inclinations, vulnerabilities and predispositions to a fuller resolution. I know where I am, where I've been and where I am going. Understanding the subtle subconscious influences that I, and many others, harbor has revolutionized my life on multiple levels and I am blessed for being at this stage of my development and awareness so early in my journey. My story is a rich narrative of personal growth. From shy and timid I have become confident, competent and inspiring. I have encounter massive personal stresses, grief, betrayal and suffering but I have continued forward without excuse. I am proud to be leading the life I live. I have acted honorably without fail and that has been my greatest achievement.
