A little about yourself, your education and work experience, your skills, software , spoken languages, etc -- I have no favorites, a few good examples here Madilyn Stenkamp , Ines Coimbra , Maria Red and so many many many more :) • Setup and keep your lovely portfolio -- like any of these OR THIS TOTALLY RANDOM ONE • I can read all the articles we have • I can write my own stuff (with the caveat of the closed beta) • I can curate the content around me (again with a caveat) • I can bookmark almost everything • I can follow Spaces and Blogs and get notifications when new content shows up • I can explore and join Spaces • I can comment on things • I can look for and apply to Job Opportunities • I can look for and access a wonderful set of mentors and opportunities that come from time to time • I can watch a whole lot of great Talks - from great career tips More Than the Portfolio: Communication and Networking for Artists to being a good person in general with Embracing the Art of Positive Feedback or immersive audio with Immersive Audio: Emotion and Creativity. • I can also apply to give talks when opportunities rise up • I can also chat within some Spaces with likeminded folks • I can enter Challenges • I can JUDGE Challenges and provide feedback too :) • I can sign up my company :) • I can even follow this Platform's little community space and complain when something isn't right or suggest cool new things :) phewwww As a Company or Studio I can• Setup my company public profile, with some of the profile richness as users and with the same portfolio tools • I can also invite my coworkers to manage the company page • I can use the Recruitment tools, we're still running a beta program for free for everyone, now's as good as time as any. Recruitment tools include Job Postings, Applicant tracking system, Online Interviews, Talent pool management, etc • I can sponsor or run my own spaces and micro communities - run your ideas through us • I can run an ads campaign on this lovely platform , talk to us if you do :) • Companies can also provide mentorships , same as individual users - ask us how • You can run your challenge or open innovation programs with us and our community, reach out if you want to know more (yes, I'm running out of ways to past our contact information in this post) • You can also have your own blog , if you want to :) That's it?Not really :) but it's a good enough inventory for now I think. Our community - the Tribe, as we call it - has different backgrounds and comes from various life paths (...) they all have one thing in common: they believe in protecting a place where we can build each other up, shielding each other from a chaotic and volatile sector. This is a place where like-minded talents, business agents, and governmental partners exchange knowledge, inspiration, and opportunities to impact society through the development of the creative economy. Together, we go against this industry's selfish, dark, egomaniac side and make it a fair place where everyone can grow and thrive.” There are many ways to express our mission, this is one of them, and having a Mission is something I hold very dear to my heart and to my overall energy and motivation, the Mission drives the Work which in turn produces Results and the cycle begins anew -- keep in mind that I will make it my Mission in this post to make a Triangle analogy. In this case, the "like-minded talents, exchanging knowledge (and) inspiration" in "a place where we can build each other up" is the driving force here. We're building a very human community and part of our job is to create the tools for it and this is what that is. A tool for you and me and everyone to be able to do just that. Why now?That one is easier, we're a small team, we dream big, we can't be everywhere at the same time, we've spend a lot of time building the foundations of our community, we then focused on building the tools we need to support out events and challenges, we then focused on the Business Agents part of our Tribe and so we've built a frame we're happy with, so it's time to work on the Heart of our Tribe, which is it's People, you know, you and possibly me as well :) It's also important to us to bring in - urgh, I'm sorry if this word has become loaded over time - Content from everyone, we're still going to write content, we'll still want to ensure we fulfill our responsibility of driving the Mission and ensuring it continues to make sense and that this Safe Place remains so - again, another loaded term - and let the Community drive itself and shine on it's own. What's the Plan then?Unlike other features, we'll be taking a slower approach here - the focus here is two-fold - we'll want to give you the tools to write your own Story but we'll also want to give everyone the tools to Discover the Stories, but we want to make sure everyone gets what we're trying to do and sometimes, the easiest way to explain is to show, so we'll be taking a little bit of time to explore the tools ourselves, we'll bring in people who are interested and willing to suffer a little bit while we tighten all the screws and plug all the leaks and once we're happy, we'll open everything to everyone. PS: Welcome, The Entire Land?I once saw a Brian Suda presentation where he told the story about how he wanted to write a Hello World program but in Hieroglyphs for a TShirt (yes, standard nerdy stuff) and how that ended up being an endeavor, starting with the letter L not existing and how they iterated it enough to come up with a close second - which Ancients Egyptians could, probably, understand it correctly - which is kinda like my posts, I write them to the best of my ability, hoping that everyone can, probably, understand them! [Hello, the Entire Land] PS2: Triangles?Ah yes, Mission / Work / Results , a triangle , and because this is in itself a cycle, and we're building something complex, I like to think of this Triangle as one of many similar ones, which if you pile them up a little bit, you'll end up with a larger triangle that's made up of these other smaller Triangles, which I find like a lovely description of what building complex structures looks like, especially if these complex structures are Triangle Shaped. And that's all nice and fine, but the eternal philosophical question "If you're writing an Haiku in the forest, and a tree falls on you but no one hears it, is it content?" is always present and we need to address it! Yes, it's content! Get well soon! ❤️‍🩹 But what if that tree doesn't fall and in fact you're not in the forest and there's other people writing Haikus or worse, Vogon Poetry how will people read your work? To answer that we must go to the pre-algorithmic therefore pre-historic time of the 2010s and the archaic notion of personal content curation “Content curation is the process of gathering information relevant to a particular topic or area of interest, usually with the intention of adding value through the process of selection, organization, and maintenance of the items in a collection or exhibition. Services or people that implement content curation are called curators. Curation services can be used by businesses as well as end users.” But why?We believe our Tribe is incredibly talented, we've seen the things they come up with, the things they say, the stories they tell. In a World of Quantity we think Quality is better, and while we can hyper grow quantifiable metrics, Quality remains a process that envolves opinion and discernment. And while there's Art in Building , there's also Art in Foraging and as much as we ALL ABSOLUTELY LOVE ALGORITHMIC CONTENT CURATION, we'll approach this the old fashion way (again, old fashion is 2015 or thereabouts) Editorial Note: There are, in fact, as of today, two lists clearly marked as Algorithmic / Automated . Please continue reading and don't point this fact out. What's the Plan then?Starting today, you'll see a new item on the navigation bar called Stories - in it you'll see a series of Lists . We'll first release our own take on curating the content we have, we also need to learn and tweak things just enough to make it good. At the same time we'll expand the ability for the tribe to bring their own stories in to the mix. [David points to the new Navigation item]Finally, we'll open up the curation tools for everyone, namely you'll be able to: • Create your own lists and carefully curate it's contents • Share them publicly • Save and see what your favourite curators are curating (basically you'll Curate the Curator's Curation, which is a 3C reference I was contractually obligated to include) Why are you telling us this?Over the past years we've done a lot of work but it wasn't always front facing and it wasn't always for everyone, THU's success comes from all our initiatives and that had to come up first, even if they all involved and were made for the Tribe . This makes is sometimes difficult for us to walk everyone through the process and ideas, but these two new features are different, they're for everyone and we'll have to exercise some muscles we haven't exercised in a while. Different tools, different approaches, I want to be clear about what we're trying to achieve, first, and as we go along and we observe the results, I'll want to be clear about whatever changes we'll have to make. I should also mention that the work that Delcio Gomes and the TAOS Movie crew is doing and the Open to Everyone approach resonated with me and pushed me forwards a little bit.
