Biography
Active as an artist for over 20 years, Damien Seth is a composer, music producer, and sound engineer who has left a significant mark on the history of Brazilian urban music. Originally from the Lyon region in France, his move to Rio de Janeiro in the late 1990s played a key role in developing and consolidating sampling techniques widely used in rap, at a time when the genre was establishing itself within Brazil’s musical landscape.
His solid technical career has been built through collaborations on projects with major international and national music icons. As part of technical teams and historic recording sessions, Damien has contributed to works by artists such as Kanye West, Jorge Ben, Gal Costa, O Rappa, Carlinhos Brown, Kid Abelha, Cidade Negra, Paulinho Moska, Zeca Baleiro, among many others. This extensive studio experience was recognised with a Grammy nomination for his work alongside master musician Gilberto Gil.
After working with artists including MC Marechal, Marcelo D2, Xará, and Gutierrez, his contribution to Brazil’s rap movement rooted in samba was further acknowledged in 2020, when he won a Latin Grammy for his participation in Amarelo, the album by Emicida — with whom Damien has collaborated for over 15 years.
A core contributor to the artistic ecosystem of the Lab Fantasma label, Damien Seth has been involved in numerous projects by its artists, including Rael, Drik Barbosa, Evandro Fioti, Thiago Jamelão, and MC Rashid.
In addition to performing as a DJ on stage for the opening of the Franco-Cuban sisters IBEYI, he now works closely with Emicida, taking on the role of artistic co-producer across his projects.
