Well, I’ve been curious about the Art world ever since I can remember. Usually, I’m described as a creative goofball with a big heart and a high sense of responsibility. Love wonder and freedom of Art
Biography
I'm no Da Vinci,Tim Burton, Walt Disney, Seth McFarlane or even a Steven Spielberg. I'm simply Catarina, an aspiring artist who's biggest idols are people who create magic, fabricate emotions and bring to "life" some of the weirdest, most chaotic, eccentric and out of this world ideas. Because most of Art is exactly that, bringing the tinniest or biggest ideas from our inner world to the physical world that we all share. I have been mesmerized by the cartoon universe ever since I gained a conscience. So much so that I was described as a real life moving cartoon, mainly inspired in Roger Rabbit or any other goofy cartoon characters that have ever "lived". Because of this, I spent hours on end admiring and studying not only cartoons but everyone and everything else around me, all just so that I too, could start drawing new and already existing characters, all by myself.
Art is the only thing that has always been consistent in my life, which truly helped me as a kid. Touching on the fact that when I was only eight years old I moved with my family (parents and three siblings) to Qatar. In my absolute innocence, this new country I had just moved to was a whole different world that I had never encountered. Although it was a larger than life adjustment for all of us, to me not much mattered as long as I could continue to watch/study all cartoons, had a pencil and paper (or walls too, but my mom wasn't a fan) to draw on, I could always submerge myself into my own fantastic world. While in Qatar, I ended up studying in international English schools, which gave me the ability to speak English almost as a native and it also gave me the opportunity to learn and be in contact with so many diverse cultures through all peers and teachers I met along the way. Unfortunately for me, the Art world and academic arts weren't really invested in and, to my disappointment, no one seemed to be truly interested or cared at all about the Art world.
I have since moved back to Portugal, where I spent three years studying generalized Art in a professional high school course. After that, in 2022 I did a course in ETIC on Concept Art and I absolutely loved it. I learned so much with real true interest, that I want to continue learning more to keep finding new ways and techniques that will help me begin my career as an artist. I want to grow and learn about everything and anything to better my craft, to also help me channel my creativity and ideas to the best of my abilities. I still watch cartoons while drawing, all the time. I hope to one day be, even if just a little bit, like George Lucas or any Disney concept artist or animator that contributed to all the magical worlds I witnessed growing up, as well as all of the greats I have already mentioned and all the ones I haven't. I will always do my best to create and admire Art.
