Biography
I had my first contact with my first 3d package before I was in college and I loved it, so by the time I finished my engineering, I had it clear that I wanted to dedicate my professional life to computer graphics rather than managing networks. So I enrolled in a Computer Graphic Master that gave me a solid knowledge on the basics of it around the year 2003.
Sooner than later I got my first job in a small company that recruited me for the lighting team, they were extremely happy with my performance, so when the project finished I had enough recommendations from my mentors to jump into another project in a relatively close city. The story repeated again, so when the project was done, my former supervisor hooked me up with my first project abroad, in Belgium.
After this job I could jump to my first big gig in Australia on Happy Feet 2. Axis came next, I started as a temporary freelancer for 3 months.. And there I met with the best crew I could ever find. I earned their respect and made me permanent after a few projects and we pushed the work successfully with a lot of hours and effort through many projects. In a few years we went from an old decaying building in Glasgow downtown to an amazing full floor in a brand new office building. By that time my first daughter was 2 years old and my wife was pregnant again, a recruiter from Dreamworks DDU contacted me, on that year Axis was at full throttle, and we were burning the midnight oil too often, my wife wasn't happy with the situation, she felt alone and i wasn't at home most of the time, so i took the offer from Dreamworks, since it promised better work-life balance.
Life at Dreamworks was easy, and my supervisor was really happy with me. They selected me to join a special team to help finish some remaining sequences from Trolls, then we went back to our main movie, ¨the Boss Baby¨ which I was also given full sequences to light. They were talking to me about a promotion when Universal took over Dreamworks and closed the Dedicated Unit. So I reached out to Nick Epstein, my former lead at Happy Feet six years ago. He had always been happy with my performance and offered me a 3 month job at Weta but it was too much of a hassle for all my family for that short period so I tried to negotiate something longer. They said that they should have an opening in a year or so… I bet on it (biggest regret of my life) and I lost my window.
We ended up in Montreal Cinesite for a short show, after which I got an offer to move to Sony Vancouver but again my family didn't want to relocate so we stayed in Montreal for 7 years at On Animation studios until it had to close business.
Now I´m open for work :) and learning U5 to expand my skill set !
