Biography

I'm Benedetta Dossi, a concept artist and teacher.
I've been working for almost 20 years, collaborating with various Italian animation companies, starting as a concept artist and then reaching a leadership position, coordinating creative teams for projects targeting school and preschool students.
Recently, I've been working on a project for environmental protection, focusing on issues closer to humanity and nature.
I'm an expert in PSD, Procreate, and traditional art, including life drawing.

Teaching, my great passion, is part of my professional growth and development: I've taught several life drawing courses for the Urban Sketching organization and currently teach concept art at the RBW ACADEMY and IDEA ACADEMY in Rome.
The teaching topics range from basic notions such as color theory, perspective and anatomy to pro lessons on the development of characters, props and environments.

My approach to drawing is heavily based on creativity, finding originality, motivation, and self-improvement through dedication, analysis, and fun.
This is why in my lessons I dedicate a lot of time to studying the subject (brainstorming), teaching various techniques aimed at identifying one's own creative potential so that the student can ultimately become master of himself.

Work Experience

2023 – Present day

Lead - Concept Artist (Part Time)

Al-one (Rome)

I worked on a family animation project as a concept designer, managing all aspects of the environments, props, and secondary characters. I also handled color script work, texture references, and guidance for the lighting departments.

Managing the project was an excellent testing ground for bringing out the innovative ideas of art director Luca Della Grotta and Francesco Dafano in a film that was challenging to make, yet visually striking.
Coordination with the other development teams was excellent, thanks to the outstanding work of modeling department lead Stefano Critelli.

2022 – Present day

Art Teacher (Freelance)

IDEA ACEDEMY (Rome)

As a teacher, I guide students in creating their professional portfolios, focusing my lessons on interior and prop design.
Students learn various creative techniques to unlock their artistic potential and create designs that are both innovative and adhere to the project guidelines.

My main topics focus on the brainstorming technique and all the initial techniques such as the silhouette and the study of contrasts aimed at creating numerous variations before defining the final concept.

2017 – Present day

Lead - Art Teacher (Freelance)

RAINBOW ACADEMY (Rome)

I teach concept design to students of all levels, ranging from basic drawing lessons such as color theory, anatomy, and perspective to lessons focused on concept development (character, prop and environment design).
Each lesson aims to teach how to approach the subject, thus creating a solid structure thanks to which students can grow independently.

2009 – 2021

Lead - 2D Concept Artist (Full Time)

Rainbow CGI (Rome)

I began my career as a 2D junior concept artist within a creative team led by Supervisor Marco Marini and Art Director Vincenzo Nisco on an animated film set in ancient Rome.
Over the years, my role grew, and while working on various TV series for young audiences such as Winx, 44Cats, and Blippi, I moved on to lead a creative team.

Combining my skills in design and teaching, I coordinated, planned, and managed work schedules in line with production requirements, ensuring the artistic and professional growth of my team.
