Biography
Hello, my name is Amber Patel. I am a Savannah College of Art and Design Alumni. I recently received my Bachelor of Fine Arts in Animation in the Spring of 2021. Here I was introduced to each part of the 2D and 3D pipeline and I found my passion for 3D Lighting and Compositing. Junior and Senior years of college I was able to work on multiple student films as a modeler, lighter, lead lighter, and director. The film I directed was a hybrid music video film, so it helped quite a bit with integrating both 2d and 3d assets. I also worked as a lead lighter on the underwater film "Diving Belle" and the thrilling jungle book film "Ajgura". Both these films had interesting lighting scenarios and conflicts that I helped create solutions for. For example, Diving Belle wanted to use both AiFog and AiAtmosphere which is not possible in the same scene, so I created render layers and different Maya files. This allowed us to composite and blend both effects into the shots. After my time at SCAD, I continued to broaden my knowledge and skills as a CG lighter. I joined communities such as the Academy of Animated Arts and lit shots for students at the Anim School. I am also self-learning Nuke, Substance, and Unreal with help from classes on Udemy and YouTube. I have also been given opportunities to continue working as a lighter on student films like "Pick Up", which is an official selection for the Kids First Film Festival, and leadlight for the current student film, "Crossing Over". Another way for me to practice cinematic lighting and grow my skills, I have been by recreating scenes from movies such as Tripple 9. I am currently working with people interested in different pipelines to recreate shots from each of Daniel Craig's James Bond movies. By working closely with colleagues from all over the world, I have been able to create new connections and gain so much knowledge from each of them. I hope to continue my journey by meeting wonderful artists and collaborating with them.
As a second-generation immigrant, I wish to work on stories that make a difference in the world and create feelings in the audiences watching. This is why I love lighting because it is so important to creating the overall mood and emotion of the shots. I hope to find a way to touch hearts through animation the way it has in mine.
