I studied fine art and computer science at Scripps College. But, I didn't realize what I really wanted to do until later! After graduating in 2019, I worked as an AmeriCorps at a shelter serving houseless pregnant and parenting women in Cleveland. There, I held dual roles as the Operations Coordinator and as a Live-in Residential Counselor. That shelter was where I realized I wanted to work in entertainment! Whether it was Black Panther, a Filipino romcom, or yet another Baby Shark video, these films gave a group of wildly different individuals a humble platform of common ground to laugh, discuss, cry, and bond over. I have such vivid memories of times like when we took everyone to see Just Mercy in theaters together. Hours into labor at the hospital? At least The Men in Black is there to distract you. Struggling to talk to a staff member about white privilege? Maybe Little Fires Everywhere can open the conversation. Trying to build trust with a stranger? Why not start with giving them the remote and asking them what they would like to watch. Entertainment is so, so powerful and essential. When my service year ended in 2020, I immediately researched online classes for entertainment design. I found a special love for environments, and I've been focusing on background art since then. It has been an incredible journey so far! I'm so grateful for the friends I've made, my teachers, and how much I have grown as a person alongside my art. Here's to continuing to level up!
