THEM is an erotic techno-horror that follows Shelley, a young woman trapped in The Network - a controlled artificial environment that commodifies her body and emotions for online consumption.
The film explores the themes of surveillance, exploitation, voyeurism, and bodily autonomy in a hyper-mediated digital world.
As with the director’s previous film, THE HUNT(2024), THEM is being developed collaboratively with top-level talent across the industry - several members of the team have integrated award-winning projects such as Arcane, Love, Death and Robots, Secret Level, Avatar: The Way of Water, or Klaus.
With THEM, we aim to continue showcasing new ways of creating sophisticated, high-quality animated films that engage with serious, adult subject matter while retaining mainstream appeal. The project positions animation as a medium capable of addressing complex social and political themes. Using the innovative methods and the production approach established in the director’s previous film, THEM follows a “Guerrilla Animation” model - demonstrating how small teams and limited resources can still produce ambitious, visually and thematically rich animated works in an effort to encourage sustainable, independent approaches to contemporary animated filmmaking.
