Love, Death & Robots has its own interesting origin story, going back to pitching a feature reprise of the 1981 classic anthology Heavy Metal. Studio execs loved it but the marketing folks hated it. But after Deadpool's success, Netflix took a risk and voila, a new kind of animated series was born. The talk will be an overview of the series, with a focus on the creative process, which is unique and also tied to the process developed to make LDR. This time, working with IPs brought a whole new dimension of complexity. But many lessons emerged about honoring the spirit of the source material one produces, and developing trust with those IP holders handing their baby over to animation creators.
