Project Description

DeMaré is a transmedia project with multiple narrative windows to address the same theme: the death of the oceans from the perspective of an artisanal fishermen in southeastern Brazil. This narrative universe links a mobile game, an immersive animated short film and an audiovisual testimony. I grew up in the south of Brazil, on an island where Tainha fishing is still practiced. I have always been fascinated by the collective work, the resistance that this art represents and the colorful boats. For two years I have been accompanying the fishermen of the beach where I live, documenting their wait. Last year the Tainha did not arrive on the island. The group of fishermen that I have been portraying affirm that they will continue to wait. They told me how year after year, in their nets, they noticed the gradual death of the oceans. They told me that they know that they are the last generation of fishermen of the Tainha. This project seeks to create awareness and hope. In a playful, musical and poetic way to witness this struggle, which is not only of fishermen... it concerns us all as humanity. By immersing ourselves, quite literally, in the current marine life .
