Project Description
No matter what culture one is from, we have all experienced the power of food and how it brings people together. Food is a universal and common language that transcends barriers. This short animated film project and subsequent mobile game helps the user taste and understand cuisines (and their histories) from AAPI culture. The mobile game will not only introduce users to different AAPI cuisines, it will also guide users to local small businesses/vendors in their community to purchase and try their food. The short animated film: By focusing on an ancient lost art of candy-making in East Asia, we follow the story of a boy and Candy Man, who bond through this ancient and magical art of candy-making. When a new candy store opens up next to them and threaten their business, they must save their business by showing their community the importance of the love and care that goes into making their craft. The Game: After the film, the audience will have the opportunity to go into a virtual candy shop like the one in the film and "shop" around or explore new types of AAPI snacks and food. If they come across an item they are intrigued by, they can click on it to learn more and also to see which small businesses/vendors in their community offers these types of food. This helps first-time tasters to feel less intimidated and more inclined to purchase a new type of food. This will also help local small businesses and build the community. This can also be expanded to other cultures.
