Project Description

“Charlie's Treasure: Exploring the Magic of East Asian Folklore” is an interactive web experience that reimagines a classic, age-old folktale in a choose-your-own-adventure story. The project combines UI/UX design + development, background music/sound effects, illustration, 2D animation, and scriptwriting. It will be an interactive web experience that starts in Charlie’s grandmother’s attic, wherein they discover a chest filled with magical antiques. Each antique will transport Charlie on a mythical adventure exploring an East Asian myth. For this particular prototype, Charlie will discover a paper lantern in the treasure chest, which will transport him into the traditional folktale of the Mid-Autumn Festival: The Legend of the Moon Goddess. Inspired by the beloved bedtime stories our immigrant elders raised us on, this project was created to illuminate and honor the richness of East Asian folklore. Our aim is to deliver these stories in a refreshing, unique, accessible, and entertaining way for younger generations. We want to ignite their imagination and amplify the richness of East Asian cultural identities not only to empower the next generation of communities who look like us, but also to raise general awareness on East Asian cultural heritage.
