Grimsby Tales: Fateful Origins
Team Comfy Socks
Project Description
“Grimsby Tales: Fateful Origins” is an animated series love letter to the transforming-teenager shows of the 80s and 90s like “Sailor Moon” and “Power Rangers” wherein four kids get chosen by Fate to transform into what they’d imagine themselves as heroes and are tasked with rescuing the world. They soon realize the weight of that reality and have to face deep questions of identity, responsibility and purpose. The story focuses on these consequences through the lens of both the fantastical and realistic parts of the setting and explores struggles like gender identity, race- and class tensions and trauma. The main aspect of this project is using pen and paper roleplaying as a writing tool for TV animation. The collaborative and improvisational aspect of storytelling through gameplay and acting creates relatable, natural, deep stories and characters, and allows players to bring in lived experiences in a very raw form.
