Project Description
Community meets a menstruating Beavis and Butthead, BAD FRIENDZ is a 2D animated queer horror-comedy about being a shitty friend. After going on a castrating rampage in hell, she-demons and toxic best friends Lilly and Marge are imprisoned on Earth and forced to impersonate first-year college students at Buttgers University in the great garbage state of New Jersey. In-between drunken hookups and never-ending homicide attempts, these two quite literal “devil women” will learn what it takes to be a good friend. This project can work as weekly short-form content for social media platforms in 1-2 minute episodes. As a creative team, we're committed to diversity and inclusivity at all production levels across race, gender expression, sexuality, and socioeconomic backgrounds. Our director identifies as queer and gender non-conforming. All the animation will be run by queer and/or female-identifying artists. Our cast and crew will reflect these values and be made up of women, BIPOC, and LGBTQIA+ creatives. In the past, maybe animated queer genre work would have been considered a niche interest, but recently, there has been a renaissance of adult animation (Bojack Horseman, Tuca and Bertie, Harley Quinn), elevated genre work (Get Out, The Babadook, Hereditary, Raw), and queer-centered stories (The Other Two, Hacks, Harley Quinn again!). If the last ten years are any indication, the future of animation, horror, and comedy is unapologetically bold, female, and queer.
