Project Description
Development and gentrification in cities is leading to a full erasure of a rich historical landscape. Vancouver, for example, is such a young city and yet it is unrecognizable from its roots. Despite living in the same place for years, we may know very little about the people, events, and stories that have shaped the place we call home. AR is the perfect burgeoning technology to help people experience history in a more personal and immersive way. By making historical information easily available through mobile devices we democratize access to knowledge. Through Animation, we hope to foster the curiosity of a younger generation about a world they were not born into. With the help of our lovable character Hoobert, complex ideas and stories will become more accessible. There is also currently no mainstream competition for this kind of platform. So, what is LORE: AR: By scanning a QR code located at the site you can use augmented reality (AR) to see a 3d model of the historical buildings overlayed and tracked on the video feed of your phone or tablet. Witnessing them as they once were. Animation: For the featured historical structure, LORE will have a selection of Animated educational clips starring Hoobert the owl. Historical documents: LORE also provides detailed information about the building's original purpose, its architectural style, archival photos, personal stories, and any notable events that took place there.
