  • The Process

<div class="lexxy-content lightbox-container"> <p>Now we are in another phase of exploration. We defined that the ocean would be the main element of this drawing. Now to the composition. <br> <br> I decided to make it so the 5G was <s><em>"hidden" </em></s> in plain sight. I took inspiration from the Google logos where they always find a way to spell out Google in the most various shapes and colors to celebrate a specific date or theme.</p> <p> </p> <p>As such- I decided that the humpback whale would be diving down deeper into the ocean and the curvature of their body would spell out the G. It was challenging to get the pose to look fluid and also natural but at the same time allow some of the liberties of art to bend the body as much as it needed to form the G.<br> <br> Then came drawing the girl. At first I decided to draw in a more children illustration style. I wanted the girl to be wearing VR googles, showing that despite the intimate contact she's having with the humpback whale, she's still somewhere else and the whale is free in the wild. </p> <p> </p> <div class="lightbox-container"> <div class="pswp-gallery lightbox " data-controller="lightbox" data-lightbox-target="container"><div class="lightbox__item"><a target="_blank" data-lightbox-target="item" href="/rails/active_storage/blobs/redirect/eyJfcmFpbHMiOnsibWVzc2FnZSI6IkJBaHBBdXFFIiwiZXhwIjpudWxsLCJwdXIiOiJibG9iX2lkIn19--96d1e73e0dccb53612d0b1b8766df54a4a80fe37/IMG_1631.PNG"><img alt="" loading="lazy" src="/rails/active_storage/blobs/redirect/eyJfcmFpbHMiOnsibWVzc2FnZSI6IkJBaHBBdXFFIiwiZXhwIjpudWxsLCJwdXIiOiJibG9iX2lkIn19--96d1e73e0dccb53612d0b1b8766df54a4a80fe37/IMG_1631.PNG"></a></div></div> <p>  </p> </div> <p> </p> <p>I redrew the girl again because I decided to go with a more realistic style of proportions. I made her pose more "floaty" so she would really feel weightless. This pose also feels more dynamic and really allows people to see her VR set properly. </p> <p> </p> <div class="lightbox-container"><div class="pswp-gallery lightbox " data-controller="lightbox" data-lightbox-target="container"><div class="lightbox__item"><a target="_blank" data-lightbox-target="item" href="/rails/active_storage/blobs/redirect/eyJfcmFpbHMiOnsibWVzc2FnZSI6IkJBaHBBdXVFIiwiZXhwIjpudWxsLCJwdXIiOiJibG9iX2lkIn19--4c30f19d6fdf54d685ff17b3b3c398bbf07e47dd/IMG_1633.PNG"><img alt="" loading="lazy" src="/rails/active_storage/blobs/redirect/eyJfcmFpbHMiOnsibWVzc2FnZSI6IkJBaHBBdXVFIiwiZXhwIjpudWxsLCJwdXIiOiJibG9iX2lkIn19--4c30f19d6fdf54d685ff17b3b3c398bbf07e47dd/IMG_1633.PNG"></a></div></div></div> <p> </p> <p>The back ground first started in blue tones with a slight gradient and textures to make it more lively, but I thought it didn't really pop out truly. I wanted it to be more dramatic, as if the girl was looking up at some other environment even. I also really wanted the diference between the surface and the bottom of the ocean to be noticiable.</p> <p> </p> <div class="lightbox-container"><div class="pswp-gallery lightbox " data-controller="lightbox" data-lightbox-target="container"><div class="lightbox__item"><a target="_blank" data-lightbox-target="item" href="/rails/active_storage/blobs/redirect/eyJfcmFpbHMiOnsibWVzc2FnZSI6IkJBaHBBdXlFIiwiZXhwIjpudWxsLCJwdXIiOiJibG9iX2lkIn19--0b47a75eebb07af15071f1decd5794a5d107bdae/IMG_1634.PNG"><img alt="" loading="lazy" src="/rails/active_storage/blobs/redirect/eyJfcmFpbHMiOnsibWVzc2FnZSI6IkJBaHBBdXlFIiwiZXhwIjpudWxsLCJwdXIiOiJibG9iX2lkIn19--0b47a75eebb07af15071f1decd5794a5d107bdae/IMG_1634.PNG"></a></div></div></div> <p> </p> <p><br> After that, I painted both the girl and the humpback whale. I used more smooth tones on the girl since the skin would be smooth and the light would softly illuminate it. In regards to the whale I used a lot of textures to really make it look natural since their beautiful skin is really full of patterns and colors. </p> <p> </p> <div class="lightbox-container"><div class="pswp-gallery lightbox " data-controller="lightbox" data-lightbox-target="container"><div class="lightbox__item"><a target="_blank" data-lightbox-target="item" href="/rails/active_storage/blobs/redirect/eyJfcmFpbHMiOnsibWVzc2FnZSI6IkJBaHBBdTJFIiwiZXhwIjpudWxsLCJwdXIiOiJibG9iX2lkIn19--7b975e9ec3e15ea7d56671f86ab3607d7d1aff15/IMG_1635.PNG"><img alt="" loading="lazy" src="/rails/active_storage/blobs/redirect/eyJfcmFpbHMiOnsibWVzc2FnZSI6IkJBaHBBdTJFIiwiZXhwIjpudWxsLCJwdXIiOiJibG9iX2lkIn19--7b975e9ec3e15ea7d56671f86ab3607d7d1aff15/IMG_1635.PNG"></a></div></div></div> <p> </p> <p>Finally the 5 of the 5G I hid in the texture of the foam and bubbles of the ocean and movement. I didn't want either the 5 or the G to be too obvious but I wanted the eye to naturally understand they were there but not upset the composition. </p> <p> </p> <div class="lightbox-container"><div class="pswp-gallery lightbox " data-controller="lightbox" data-lightbox-target="container"><div class="lightbox__item"><a target="_blank" data-lightbox-target="item" href="/rails/active_storage/blobs/redirect/eyJfcmFpbHMiOnsibWVzc2FnZSI6IkJBaHBBdTZFIiwiZXhwIjpudWxsLCJwdXIiOiJibG9iX2lkIn19--113f9ac368200f713b78f29e8ab2270c59c98c7d/IMG_1636.PNG"><img alt="" loading="lazy" src="/rails/active_storage/blobs/redirect/eyJfcmFpbHMiOnsibWVzc2FnZSI6IkJBaHBBdTZFIiwiZXhwIjpudWxsLCJwdXIiOiJibG9iX2lkIn19--113f9ac368200f713b78f29e8ab2270c59c98c7d/IMG_1636.PNG"></a></div></div></div> <p> </p> <p>And that's how I came to the final piece I'll post next. The over all process was incredibly fun to work on. I always find it fun to review the whole process after I've finished the piece because it's almost like a little domino effect. One decision led to another, one inspiration led to another, and one idea resulted in a full artwork. </p> <p> </p> <p>I used Procreate on an Ipad to work on this piece from concept to finished artwork.</p> <p> </p> <p><br> I hope you enjoyed reading about my process as much as I had explaining it! </p> <p> </p> </div>

  • Getting an idea

<div class="lexxy-content lightbox-container"> <p>This is really the base of any drawing I make. I feel like if we don't explore the composition, or even the ideas we got inicially the results are never as <em><strong>wow</strong></em> as they could be.</p> <p> </p> <p>The theme itself was pretty challenging. Asking someone how they would want to change things, or how they would see change, is always pretty philosophical. While I do love promps that allow people a wide range of emotions, poses and even themes, those do tend to be the hardest to really settle down with an idea. </p> <p> </p> <p>In my case I always am quite active when it comes to this brainstorm part. My concept art consists of drawings of a few minutes at most to get that <em>~feel~ </em>of the piece. If I don't think it's right I'll move to the next. A lot of times I'll also go back and mix parts I liked of each idea.<br> <br> What transmitted emotion?</p> <p> </p> <p>What was interesting?</p> <p> </p> <p>What composition did I like the most?</p> <p> </p> <p><s>The rest is scratched off the board</s></p> <p> </p> <p>In this case, I decided to focus on the nature aspect. I wanted animals to benefit from 5G. I want us, as humans, to help them and be close to them while animals are free to roam and follow their own instincts.<br> <br> Zoos were the first thing that came to mind. Many of the animals there couldn't even go back to the wild because they'd be heavily hunted. So what if we could change that?<br> <br> Use 5G to track animals in the wild, have surveillance on natural parks like never before.<br> <br> <em>Oh, but the good part of Zoos is that you are allowed a closeness with animals that you wouldn't naturally, you may say.  </em></p> <p> </p> <p>And yes, I do agree. I love watching those beautiful animals up close too. But we are talking about 5G here. And as such, there is a solution for it.<br> <br> VR would be the solution as well as holographic expositions of those animals!<br> <br> That was my first idea- 5G Zoos.</p> <p> </p> <div class="lightbox-container"><div class="pswp-gallery lightbox " data-controller="lightbox" data-lightbox-target="container"><div class="lightbox__item"><a target="_blank" data-lightbox-target="item" href="/rails/active_storage/blobs/redirect/eyJfcmFpbHMiOnsibWVzc2FnZSI6IkJBaHBBc3VFIiwiZXhwIjpudWxsLCJwdXIiOiJibG9iX2lkIn19--f60309f56d06ba00ab6af828720eaed8d7a5ceb1/IMG_1626.PNG"><img alt="" loading="lazy" src="/rails/active_storage/blobs/redirect/eyJfcmFpbHMiOnsibWVzc2FnZSI6IkJBaHBBc3VFIiwiZXhwIjpudWxsLCJwdXIiOiJibG9iX2lkIn19--f60309f56d06ba00ab6af828720eaed8d7a5ceb1/IMG_1626.PNG"></a></div></div></div> <p> </p> <div class="lightbox-container"><div class="pswp-gallery lightbox " data-controller="lightbox" data-lightbox-target="container"><div class="lightbox__item"><a target="_blank" data-lightbox-target="item" href="/rails/active_storage/blobs/redirect/eyJfcmFpbHMiOnsibWVzc2FnZSI6IkJBaHBBc3lFIiwiZXhwIjpudWxsLCJwdXIiOiJibG9iX2lkIn19--28b2153fe3971dc70975d2400a2223b1dbe10c13/IMG_1627.PNG"><img alt="" loading="lazy" src="/rails/active_storage/blobs/redirect/eyJfcmFpbHMiOnsibWVzc2FnZSI6IkJBaHBBc3lFIiwiZXhwIjpudWxsLCJwdXIiOiJibG9iX2lkIn19--28b2153fe3971dc70975d2400a2223b1dbe10c13/IMG_1627.PNG"></a></div></div></div> <p> </p> <div class="lightbox-container"><div class="pswp-gallery lightbox " data-controller="lightbox" data-lightbox-target="container"><div class="lightbox__item"><a target="_blank" data-lightbox-target="item" href="/rails/active_storage/blobs/redirect/eyJfcmFpbHMiOnsibWVzc2FnZSI6IkJBaHBBczJFIiwiZXhwIjpudWxsLCJwdXIiOiJibG9iX2lkIn19--bf1e9dd7682b264141b209b3c5158fb2865f6c63/IMG_1628.PNG"><img alt="" loading="lazy" src="/rails/active_storage/blobs/redirect/eyJfcmFpbHMiOnsibWVzc2FnZSI6IkJBaHBBczJFIiwiZXhwIjpudWxsLCJwdXIiOiJibG9iX2lkIn19--bf1e9dd7682b264141b209b3c5158fb2865f6c63/IMG_1628.PNG"></a></div></div></div> <p> </p> <p><br> And that is what you see here in the concept art. Sketches of a little girl going to see the tigers and finding perfect live images and environments of said tigers while they are far away in a natural habitat. <br> I decided to not to go with this idea because it was being difficult for me to express it and draw it in a way people would understand what I wanted to show.<br> <br> So I decided to change that idea up to the next sketches. A little comic of a girl's interaction with a tiger seemingly as close as possible. Then it's shown to be a a live video on the girls VR of the tigers in India. </p> <p> </p> <p>This idea I liked more, but I didn't follow it either because I didn't feel like it created that much wonder and <strong>bamb! </strong>visually on people. It was a cute comic idea, but I wanted something more simple visually.</p> <p> </p> <div class="lightbox-container"><div class="pswp-gallery lightbox " data-controller="lightbox" data-lightbox-target="container"><div class="lightbox__item"><a target="_blank" data-lightbox-target="item" href="/rails/active_storage/blobs/redirect/eyJfcmFpbHMiOnsibWVzc2FnZSI6IkJBaHBBczZFIiwiZXhwIjpudWxsLCJwdXIiOiJibG9iX2lkIn19--bba792fd25501242c58f6de234a96de0884fa1e0/IMG_1615.PNG"><img alt="" loading="lazy" src="/rails/active_storage/blobs/redirect/eyJfcmFpbHMiOnsibWVzc2FnZSI6IkJBaHBBczZFIiwiZXhwIjpudWxsLCJwdXIiOiJibG9iX2lkIn19--bba792fd25501242c58f6de234a96de0884fa1e0/IMG_1615.PNG"></a></div></div></div> <p> </p> <p><br> Then, after some more research and looking for ideas I saw that this year is focused on the oceans. <br> <br> Thats when I figured exactly the theme I wanted- The oceans and 5G working together. </p> <p> </p> <div class="lightbox-container"><div class="pswp-gallery lightbox " data-controller="lightbox" data-lightbox-target="container"><div class="lightbox__item"><a target="_blank" data-lightbox-target="item" href="/rails/active_storage/blobs/redirect/eyJfcmFpbHMiOnsibWVzc2FnZSI6IkJBaHBBdENFIiwiZXhwIjpudWxsLCJwdXIiOiJibG9iX2lkIn19--164917a842344bd0fc4688c56632ec15e36d5578/IMG_1625.PNG"><img alt="" loading="lazy" src="/rails/active_storage/blobs/redirect/eyJfcmFpbHMiOnsibWVzc2FnZSI6IkJBaHBBdENFIiwiZXhwIjpudWxsLCJwdXIiOiJibG9iX2lkIn19--164917a842344bd0fc4688c56632ec15e36d5578/IMG_1625.PNG"></a></div></div></div> <p> </p> </div>
