Let's create a Feature!
Mentor
Description
Usually in UI/UX it is important to think about what is the specific context in which specific users will be interacting to achieve specific goals. In other words, we need a problem, or in our case a feature, to understand who is going to interact with that feature and what do we want them to achieve with its interaction.
Join in our odyssey to understand the steps that are behind creating a feature or any kind of UI/UX product.
To keep things simple, each of us will try to create an Option/Settings Menu by following these steps:
- Think of a type of a game
- Think of what genre it is for (horror, fantasy, cozy, casual, skill based, fighting, sci-fi, cartoony…)
- Who is going to play that game — if it is for kids, pg13, adults, old people or any kind of specific people?
- Think about your feature — If you would like to do another feature than Options/Settings you can choose any other (ie. inventory, main menu, equipment, huds, etc…)
- What kind of information do you need to see there?
- How would you categorize the information?
- How would you layout that information and those categories? if you are having trouble I will help you out and give you some sites to get cool references!
- What kind of feedbacks we can have to show that the information was received! (ie. animations, effects, warning messages…)
- How we would test out the interaction with this layout
- How to analyse those results and how to make changes later
Now to create the art for your new feature
- Think about what kind of game you are creating this for? Is it a cozy game, serious game, horror game, fantasy game… You can also pick up your favourite style or personal style for this
- Search for references on the style you choose
- We will figure out how to style the UI according to it: usage of shadows, outlines, highlights, color, shapes and shading
- See all of those all come together
Some of the brainstorm steps will be done in pairs/groups to speed up some process and to also get a feel to how teams influence our own projects, but in the end of the workshop you will end up with tools and ideas to kickstart your Ui/Ux projects ^^
Do bring to the workshop some ideas and references for whatever feature you would like to do here as well!
