Lighting Lead
Description
As the Lighting Lead, you will guide and inspire your team to create master lighting sequences. You will work with the Supervisor and deploy technical and creative approaches to the lighting team for production shots.
Responsibilities:
- Create the master lighting of a sequence, following the Art department specs, all under the artistic supervision of the Lighting Supervisor.
- Define the light rig, and with the Compositing team, communicate details to the team.
- Follow, together with the other Lighting Leads, the artistic strategy defined by the Lighting Supervisor to make sure the entire project is visually unified.
- Work on key shots or production shots until the final delivery, if needed.
- Highlight cost implications of requests or artistic changes.
- Work with the Lighting Supervisor, CG Supervisor and the other Lighting Leads to make sure that the technical procedures are optimal for the project.
- Attend technical meetings and offer solutions to reduce the complexity of the sequence.
- Work closely with the other Lighting Leads and the Lighting and Compositing Supervisors on the definition and implementation of tools, workflows and pipeline for the department.
- Define, along with the Lighting, Compositing and CG Supervisors, optimization strategies to make sure the render of the sequence stays within budget.
- Work closely with other departments during the preproduction and production of the sequence to make sure that all the inputs for the Lighting department are optimal.
- Manage a team of lighting and compositing artists, being responsible for all the shots of the sequence, on time and within budget.
- Attend the Lighting Supervisor reviews providing feedback on sequence shots.
- Troubleshoot creative and technical issues as they arise and determine when shots are ready for review.
- Enforce the approved technical and artistic workflows for all shots of the sequence.
- Work closely with the Lighting Supervisor and the Lighting Production Sup on the shots and assign tasks to the team based on skills and preferences.
- Along with the Lighting Supervisor, attend complexity meetings and elaborate sequences bids.
- Work with the Lighting Supervisor for maintaining crew morale and mentor and train your team.
Requirements
- 6+ years of experience in lighting and compositing.
- 4+ years of experience in lighting and compositing for animation feature films.
- Previous experience managing teams.
- Advanced knowledge of Maya, Arnold and Nuke.
- Self-motivated and comfortable working with deadlines.
- Strong artistic eye and understanding of color, lighting and image analysis.
- Scripting and Python a plus.
- Experience working with procedural multishot worflows and sequence based lighting is a plus.
- Proficient in English.
- Spanish a plus.
