Virtual Production Technical Director

Description

Responsible for providing technical support building VR experiences and translating creative direction into a virtual environment. Collaborate with our development team to advance the state of real-time rendered immersive experiences, striving for the highest possible visual fidelity as well as artistically innovative and compelling performances. To optimise the combination of VFX film production with real-time software development.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Prepare virtual scenes and experiences in collaboration with Dviz team in alignment with Director/Production designer needs and be the primary person responsible for conceptualising, prototyping and refining user interactions and experiences.

  • Scene optimisation and Playset tool integration for VR and VCam scouting.

  • Environment preparation and compatibility with VR software.

  • Contribute to the development of technology to service show needs and requirements, collaborating with engineering to create real-time engine roadmap.

  • Prepare or assist in mo-cap shooting sessions (casting, choreography, motion list, direction, etc.)

  • Working in Maya and Unreal Engine, as well as Vicon camera calibration.

  • Real-time art content creation, profiling and optimisation.

Key Peers or Relationships

R&D, XLABS, artists and supervisors across all disciplines, Creative Director, Production Management.

Requirements

Job Requirements

Education / Experience

  • Previous experience within a VFX or similar digital production facility.

  • Ability to demonstrate an understanding of VR development with a desire to further develop the skills required to become proficient in the role.

  • In depth knowledge of Unreal engine.

  • Confident with real-time workflows, performance capture, and virtual camera sets.

  • Good understanding of game engine texturing, lighting and shading.

  • Motion Capture experience - prep, setup, shoot, clean up and editing.

  • Adaptable and willing to learn new processes and technical skills with an enthusiasm for new ideas, tools and platforms.

  • Proficiency in managing data in both Linux and Windows environments.

  • Expertise in use of game editors, scripting/programming and 3D tools.

  • Possess a passion for making and playing innovative, quality experiences.

  • Excellent creativity and demonstrated ability to generate innovative concepts, mechanics, and ideas.

  • Ability to work on set locations.

  • Excellent attention to detail.

  • Ability to learn new tasks and facilities quickly.

  • Ability to work under deadlines and maintain a pleasant and professional attitude.

Desired Skills / Experience

  • Experience or interest in the creation of VR & AR experiences.

  • An understanding of scripting within a software package would be advantageous.

  • Familiarity with 3D modeling packages such as Maya.

  • VFX production / pipeline experience.

  • UI development experience.

  • Support documentation writing.
