  • Traditional watercolor painting

The illustration is made in watercolor. working traditionally is a way to step into my oasis. I like working Traditionallly because it’s tangible, made by a human and gives authenticity. Allot of art nowadays is made with computers, we lose some of the imperfections of the material and artist. It is precisely by working traditionally that you can feel more of the humanity in the work.

  • Color compositions

First I did a digital sketch with all the colors I wanted, then I tried it out on paper with watercolors. I'm goin for a warm feeling I want it to feel cozy and direct your eye to the treeman and his book.

Here I picked some sketches that I liked from my sketchbook. I decided to refine them a little bit more so I could decide which version I would like best.

It was important for me to show a scene where the treeman is connecting with the people around him and showing/telling them his tales. I like the idea of the spectators hanging out in the branches and enjoying the stories. The camera is placed in his branches aswell, almost as if you(the viewer) are also sitting and watching.

  • Sketchbook exploration

Here are some of the traditional sketches I did to explore different takes on the main character and how I could convey my message most effectively.

  • First Ideation

A small word web to start my creative process! After figuring out what the core is of my Oasis. I decided to write down what I wanted to show in the final image.

''A forest with beings who share their knowledge and conviviality. The central character is a wise and loving tree man who enjoys telling stories of old. He symbolizes the masters who inspire me to grow as a person and artist.''
